The Ohio Department of Health is piloting a Test & Stay program in ten (10) Warren County districts that will begin on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.  Test & Stay is a testing initiative for asymptomatic close contacts of students with confirmed COVID-19. This testing program will allow asymptomatic close contacts to remain in school if they receive an individual rapid antigen test (BinaxNOW) two times during their quarantine period and test negative, as well as wear a face mask while inside their school. This more strategic approach provides a second option for families that will allow students to remain at school.

 

Participating districts include Carlisle Local Schools, Clinton-Massie Schools, Franklin City Schools, Kings Local Schools, Lebanon City Schools, Little Miami, Mason City Schools, Springboro, Wayne Local Schools, the Warren County Career Center and the Warren County Educational Service Center. 

 

ODH is providing the participating districts with Abbot BinaxNow Rapid Antigen Professional Test kits and Abbott BinaxNOW At-Home Test kits. School districts may administer professional tests at school to identify close contact students. Additionally, families may opt to test their child at home, and then utilize a telehealth session to oversee test administration and result reporting. All families using the at home test kit should follow the Ohio Department of Health User Guide: Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card Home Test Kit – User Guide.

 

Currently, the pilot only applies to students who are close contacts due to exposure at school, not through a community exposure or school-sponsored activity exposure. Families whose student has been identified as a close contact will have the option to participate in the pilot to stay in school, or they may quarantine for 10 days at home, or return to school  on day 8 with proof of a negative test on day 5, 6, or 7.  If a student is in the pilot program to stay in school, the student will not be permitted to participate in extracurricular activities outside of school hours.  Students who are wearing a face mask or are vaccinated do not need to quarantine.  

 

Warren County is partnering with the school districts and county commissioners using federally approved COVID-19 funds to provide a nurse for each district to help with testing and pilot implementation.

 

The superintendents of public-school districts in Warren County extend our thanks to the Warren County Commissioners for their willingness to provide funding for the employment of school nurses.  Commission President Dave Young and his fellow Commissioners Tom Grossmann and Shannon Jones support the pilot project that will reduce quarantines of healthy students in Warren County schools.

Waynesville High School Girls Cross Country Team Wins Cedarville Friendship Invitational!
 

The Waynesville High School Lady Spartans Cross Country Team won First Place at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational last Saturday! Our team was led by first place race champion and sophomore superstar Samantha Erbach who won the race by nearly two minutes with a time of 19:50.9 seconds! Sophomore sensations Maria Gill, Emme Greely, and Kyla Harvey also posted outstanding performances and took home 2^nd, 3^rd, and 5^th place respectively. Junior Alyza Kamp and Senior Captain Rachel Ingle also had an amazing race day for the Lady Spartans finishing in 12^th and 22^nd place respectively. Rebecca Drew, Olivia Walters, Senior Captain Kate Handle, Elizabeth McKeehan, and Jordan Patterson all ran a fabulous race and rounded out the win for our super talented team! We are very proud of our Lady Spartan runners and are looking forward to an outstanding rest of the season as we are working hard in preparation for an SWBL League Championship and a return to Columbus to vie for a trophy in the State Cross Country Championship!

 
In their back-to-back games last week, the Lady Spartans split winning 4-1 over Mariemont and losing 1-2 to Oakwood.  Waynesville started off strong and fast against Mariemont scoring early in the game when Caroline Stupp found Brooke Woody on the wing for the first goal of the night.  Emma Whitaker followed up by muscling her way into the box and finding Sam Erbach for the finish.  Erbach later set up Woody and Jillian Layne for goals to wrap up the Spartans’ scoring for the evening.  The next night, Waynesville and Oakwood were tied 0-0 coming out of the first half when Oakwood found the back of the net on a long shot.  The Lady Spartans rallied and found Erbach who set up Allie Freese for the tying goal.  However, Waynesville conceded a second goal later in the half and ran out of time.
 
Waynesville’s games last week followed a 7-0 victory over Franklin and a tough 1-2 loss to Alter.  The Lady Spartans dominated against Franklin with Erbach (4), Baylee Williams, and Whitaker (2) all scoring goals assisted by Stupp (2), Erbach, Freese (2), Kate Handle, and Layne.  Against Alter, Erbach scored off of a direct kick to tie the game, but Alter scored their second goal with only a few minutes remaining on the clock to win.
 
The Lady Spartans JV moves to 3-2-3 with wins over Franklin and Mariemont, a tie to Oakwood, and a loss to Alter.  Reagan Russell, Samantha Boswell (2), and Rebecca Drew all scored against Franklin assisted by Danie Scamorza, Natalina Capozzolo, and Russell.  Against Mariemont, Scamorza, Addison Harrison, and Emmy Lezotte (2) all put goals in for Waynesville with assists from Lynsie Kuhns, Drew, Boswell, and Harrison giving Waynesville a 4-1 victory.  Harrison scored both goals in the 2-2 tie with Oakwood assisted by Boswell both times.
 
Tuesday, Ladies Spartans vs. Bellbrook. Erbach with 3 goals, Emme Greely with 1 goal and 1 assist, Emma Whitaker had 2 assists, and Allie Freese had 1 assist. Gracyn Armstrong and the defense with a shut-out.

Last Thursday the Spartans put away Springfield Shawnee at home with a score of 3-0. Senior Jake Duncan had a pair of goals (one of them a PK) while sophomore Grayson Dowell put the explanation mark on the win with another goal. Senior captain, Dean Byers and freshman Celtan Walton we’re credited with an assist a piece. 
 
Saturday we took on nearby Wilmington and a tough morning battle. The Spartans dominated the possession game and managed to find the only goal of the game putting away the Hurricane squad with the score of 1-0. 
 
Monday the JV squad travel to Springboro in a tough rainy battle. The young Spartan squad played very well, but came up short with the score of 0-1. 
 
Tuesday the Spartans were on the road to face #2 locally ranked Bellbrook in conference game. JV came up short 0-1 while varsity suffered a 0-5 loss. 
 
Tonight the Spartans take on #1 locally ranked and #6 state ranked Oakwood at home at 7pm.

The After Prom Committee for the 2022 After Prom is now forming and we need lots of volunteers to help pull off a fantastic event this year.   We need lots of volunteers to help in planning, fundraising, and organizing the event.  We are also looking for parents who are willing to shadow this year to help chair the event in future years.
