 From Left to Right:

Juices Wild by Smuttynose Brewing Co.

This is an incredibly juicy NEIPA that features tropical notes of pineapple and mango. With the hops front and center it retains a bit of the bitterness you'd expect from an IPA, but quickly transitions into the fruit notes leading into a soft grapefruit finish.

Autumn Midnight by Winter Hill Brewing Company

From our friends down the street is this Imperial Stout brewed with Pumpkin and Cocoa nibs, making for a very robust and nuanced Stout. Perfect now that the solstice has come and gone.

Let's Bee Homies by Stone Brewing & Deschutes Brewery

This is an IPA, however it is brewed with Oregon Blackberry Honey and California Orange Blossom Honey, making it a vibrant and slightly sweet take on the hazy IPA.

Fun Wines for the Weekend!
Maria Joao Pato
Vinho Branco
2020

This is a lovely natural white to end the summer with. 100% Bical from young vines on sandy soil, there is a short maceration on the skins, but not enough to qualify as an orange wine. It is finished off with 6 months of oak. Then end result is a refreshing and complex white wine with plenty of salinity and acidity to pair with most anything. This is a cool, unique wine to help keep the summer alive.
Domaine du Petit Oratoire
T'as Poussé le Bouchon Trop Loin!
2020

This is a very cool natural French red, a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Cinsault. This is a vibrant wine bursting with fruit notes the likes of Sour Cherry and Plum, and with plenty of acidity and a bit of tannin to hold it all together with. This, is certainly what some might call glou glou wine, juicy, vibrant, and effortlessly drinkable. Perfect to enjoy with old friends and your significant others, a wine to share with those you love.
Barr Hill Gin

Finally on our Gin shelf is this wonderful piece of liquid alchemy. Easily one of the best Gins on the market, this is a mildly botanical gin that leans into Juniper and is also distilled with honey which attributes a tiny bit of sweetness. This is the perfect Gin for a Bee's Knees. And, speaking of which, Barr Hill is currently doing a promotion where if you post yourself enjoying a Bee's Knees on Instagram and tag @barrhillgin, they will plant 10 sq/ft of Bee Habitat for every post they receive. Last year they were tagged in 7,430 posts and planted 74,300 square feet of Bee Habitat. Do yourself and the planet a favor, drink a Bee's Knees.

Ingredients:

2oz of Gin (Preferably Barr Hill Gin)
.75oz of Lemon Juice
.75oz of Raw Honey Syrup (2 parts Honey to 1 part Hot Water, let cool)
Lemon Twist

Preparation:
Combine all but the Lemon Twist into a shaker, add ice, and strain into a glass, then garnish with the Lemon Twist.

Booze is an art form, just like Cinema

Those of you who know me know that I am obsessed with movies. To me, it is the apex art form, it stimulates almost all of the senses, can cut through to your emotions, and it is one of the few forms to utilize the fourth dimension (time). We're going to try something kind of fun from time to time here. Seeing that the only senses that are not impacted by film are Smell and Taste, I'm going to pair films with beverages to help further the immersion of your cinematic experience. There's just some movies that go great with the right drink. Also, this is an opportunity for me to shed light on some overlooked and underappreciated films.
From the author of The Friends of Eddie Coyle and the director of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is this hidden gem from 2012; Killing Them Softly. This is a swiftly paced, tense, and expressively stylized crime thriller that also serves as a parallel to the 2008 financial meltdown (it is set in the midst of the 2008 Election). Starring Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Sam Shepard, Richard Jenkins, and not one, but two alums of The Sopranos; Vincent Curatola and the late, great James Gandolfini. Like The Friends of Eddie Coyle before it, this film takes place in Boston area, specifically Somerville. On the one hand it is a cold blooded neo-noir crime tale, and on the other a poignant and damning examination American economics; a nuanced story of how the financial misdeeds of the few can impact the entire world around them. This is the kind of film that pairs with something simple and unabashedly American, you could either go with what is featured in the film; an ice cold bottle of Budweiser, or you could just sip on some bourbon, neat. Either of which will get you into the mood of the Somerville every-man and the bygone days of the Winter Hill Gang.

Killing Them Softly is currently available on Netflix and Showtime and is available to rent on all other platforms. You can come visit us to grab a sixer of Buds and/or some bourbon.
Cheers!
