Weekly Pull Up: Potluck with Mary Lupien
Wednesday, September 29 from 6:00-8:00 pm

At last week's Potluck with City Council Member Mary Lupien, CLT members had a great conversation about intentional living communities, art & safety, and how our own communities have changed since we've lived in them.

Next week, we're going to participate in a guided community-building circle! The food provided will be vegetarian or vegan friendly. Bring your own signature dish, a friend or two, or just join us to build community with us!

Note that this will be an outdoor potluck and that masks are encouraged. ðŸ˜Š
Hope to see you all there!
We're introducing Member Mondays!
We love highlighting our members and all of their amazing talents! For our first Member Monday earlier this month, we highlighted CLT member Teresa O. Check out her responses below!

Click here to fill out a form with some information, and you can be highlighted on all of our social media any upcoming Monday!
GET INVOLVED
Join City Roots CLT TODAY at The People's Power March, organized by Metro Justice! Much like land & housing, utilities are a necessity our neighbors cannot live without. Marginalized folks are constantly threatened with having their utilities; like heat in the wintertime, shut off because they can't afford their RG&E bill.

We shouldn't have to hope that a private company will one day do the right thing. That's why we need all our CLT members to join the fight for a public utility grid in Rochester!

We will meet at 89 East Avenue at 4:30 PM at the RG&E Office. Then we will march to Rochester City Hall for a rally to demand the creation of a public utility to replace RG&E!
We'll be at the Fall Extravaganza this Saturday, September 25 from 12-3 PM! Bring the family & check out the new Adventure Course at Grand Ave Park!

Go to https://bit.ly/FallParty2021 to register (so you can get a ticket for free food!) but you can also register on-site.

There will be Free food trucks, pumpkin painting, line dancing (and of course, music), crafts and activities for kids, and COVID vaccines!
Next Tuesday, Join 540WMain for a class taught by our City Roots Community Land Trust staff, Graham & Anastajah! Do you believe that affordable housing and land options should be afforded to all people in Rochester, but don't really know how that would quite work? This is a great introductory class for all CLT members & non-members alike!

This session will explore the history of the Community Land Trust movement, how CLTs fight gentrification and displacement, the ways different communities have used CLTs in creative, powerful ways, and share the work we do here in Rochester!

Goodman Plaza has a long, troubled history in our community. It began more than 150 years ago when the plaza was first a rock quarry. In the early 1900s, the area was turned into a municipal and industrial waste dump run by the City of Rochester. Once the dump was filled, it was covered with soil before sections of the area were sold to developers. All of this industrial waste is still buried under the ground near Goodman Plaza and prevents any development from happening on huge sections of this site.

We fundamentally believe that the transformation of this plaza must be controlled as much as possible by the people who shop there, live nearby, and are most directly impacted by the plaza.

In order to achieve this, we need to get into the community, build relationships with our neighbors, spread awareness about the site, and eventually get as many people as possible involved in the process of transforming the plaza.

That is why we will be out canvassing the neighborhoods surrounding Goodman Plaza all Fall, and we need your help doing it! Meet us in the parking lot on Goodman Plaza near Save-A-Lot for a short canvassing training before we break up into teams and head out to meet our neighbors.

We believe there is an incredible opportunity to transform Goodman Plaza into a true community asset, we have to come together as a community to make that happen.
