Fr Philip's Induction

It was wonderful to welcome so many people to the Parish on Monday this week to celebrate the beginning of Fr Philip's new ministry as the Vicar of the Ascension.

Bishop Jonathan presided at Mass and preached - full text hopefully available soon - and Bishop Christopher conducted the Institution and gave the blessing.

Among the guests, we were very glad to welcome the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Richard Field, Councillor Guy Senior, and representatives of local schools and Churches.

It was good to welcome so many clergy from across the Diocese and beyond, and also to have with us Canon Ruth Martin, the Diocesan Secretary.

Thank you also to so many parishioners and friends of the Ascension for their presence on Monday, and to the many members of the Home Team who did so much to prepare for the service and to offer a warm welcome to all our visitors.

Particular thanks to Ann Warwick and the team who co-ordinated the hospitality after Mass, to Dean and the serving team, and to Brian Parsons for the wonderful music.

Some photographs of the occasion are below, kindly taken by Robin Farquhar-Thomson and shared with his permission.

Walsingham Lamp

Our lamp that burns in the Holy House at Walsingham has recently been renewed for another year.

If anyone would like to make a contribution towards the cost of this please contact Fr Philip.

All Souls' Day:
this Tuesday

All Souls' Day is an opportunity for Christians to pray especially for all who have departed this life: for our own loved ones whom we see no longer, for departed members and benefactors of our parish but also for those who have no one to pray for them and are known to God alone.

We pray for all who have died, with confidence in the hope of the resurrection. We ask that God will welcome them into his heavenly kingdom of light and peace, in the company of all the saints.

We pray for all who have died, and especially those who have died as a result of the Covid-19 virus - many of whom, due to the restrictions, died without the comfort of the last sacraments and for those whose funeral rites had to be curtailed.

We will pray for departed loved ones, friends and benefactors at both Masses.

Please add names to the lists at the back of the church or contact Fr Philip by 12 noon on Monday 1st November.

Pastoral Care

From Fr Philip:

Over the next few weeks I hope to make contact with as many members of the Electoral Roll as possible.

If the details we hold for you need to be updated please complete this short, secure form.

If at any time you (or someone in your family) are ill, would like a visit at home or in hospital with Holy Communion or require a priest in an emergency please do not hesitate to be in touch with me.

Please, if at all possible, try not to rely solely on others to be in touch or to pass the message on -  sometimes the message is not passed on or is received too late. I would prefer to know twice than not at all!

Also, if you would like your name (or the name of another, with their permission) to be included in our public prayers for the sick please let me know.
