The Tubac Historical Society is planning to host two previews of our upcoming exhibit on Harwood Steiger textiles at the Tubac Center of the Arts on Thursday, September 30. The first session will be from 4:30pm to 5:30pm and the second from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. A short talk on Harwood Steiger and private showing of our exhibit will be included in each session.
We are very excited to host this exhibit which will trace the history of Harwood Steiger, his wife Sophie and sister in law, Wanda Halbwachs, from Harwood’s early artist days on the East Coast, through to the silk screen fabric factory which opened in Tubac in 1956 and closed in 2004. We have managed to track down examples of Harwood’s watercolors from the 1920s and the sign which hung in front of his Tubac based shop, plus numerous examples of clothing made from his original prints. A self-described “Steiger addict” from Phoenix gave us full access to her collection of over 100 samples of fabric. It was hard to choose what to include and what to leave out.
The Center of the Arts has requested that we limit attendance to 25 people per session. Masks will be required. We currently have 18 slots available for the 5:30pm preview and only 7 slots available for the 4:30 pm preview. Please let us know as soon as possible if you will be able to attend one of the two previews by sending an email to us at info@ths-tubac.org. Specify how many will attend and whether you prefer the 4:30pm session or the 5:30pm session.
But, don't worry. If you are unable to attend a preview, the Steiger textiles exhibit will remain in the Tubac Center of the Arts Studio Gallery from October 1 through November 14, 202
We appreciate your very prompt response!
