If you do one thing this week... For freelancers and independent consultants juggling projects and deadlines can be a nightmare. So I really liked this insightful long read from Tom Critchlow on how deadlines and deliverables are often designed for legibility rather than effectiveness and how to think about time and tempo differently. Really useful.
Links of the Week...
  • Google has taken a step forwards in 'powering blockchain based Web 3' by partnering with Dapper Labs (which handles between 500K and 1m transactions a week) to power their flow blockchain. I also liked this quote: 'blockchains do for the Internet what centralized administrators do for video games what physics does for our physical world. They enable scarcity, which enables supply and demand, which enables an economy'. Both links HT @zoescaman
  • Signs of the times - IKEA is launching a big furniture buyback programme in support of it's aim to be carbon positive, and they're also launching a huge collection specifically for gamers
  • Interesting dynamics going on in media buying. Boots has just launched it's own media and marketing agency to service third party brands. And 'Half of Disney’s ad sales business will be addressable (allowing ads to be targeted at the household level) in three years and make up the majority of its business in four' Wow
  • 'I asked strategy twitter and you kindly shared your sources for research – so we're sharing them all with you.' A helpful list from @paulmarkbailey
  • This was a really insightful thread on what's really going with global supply chains right now (HT @BinetLes)
  • I loved this film from Uncommon London and Google, narrated by Marcus Rashford - It's OK to Ask
  • This was quite fun - guess the movie from an AI-generated movie poster based on a short text description of the film
And finally... I like the idea of ADQaaS (HT @katiedreke)
This week I was context switching (see Tom Critchlow's piece from above) between a lot of different things - delivering an agile leadership session to a big insurance business, doing my first in person talk at a company event (weird for the first five minutes but fine after that) and pushing forwards with the ongoing FMCG project I have.

If you're interested in finding out more about my virtual workshops, consultancy, or you'd like me to talk (virtually or IRL) to your team do drop me a note.

Want to find out how I can help you or your business? Let's talk.
