Events
As you might have expected, there isn't much news to share!
The ongoing public heath restrictions, and rising Covid case numbers, means we won't be planning any organized group events for a while yet. It's hard to say when pub sessions will become a possibility again, the distancing requirements will make it hard to block off space for groups of musicians.
Live music is available in some places, the Swan on the Rideau Celtic Night is the first Wednesday of each month. Note that this is NOT a session - musicians are by invitation only but it's still a great way to get out and enjoy hearing some live Celtic music. MAP
Play in the Park
On Monday Sep. 20 at 5:30pm the Scottish Society of Ottawa is hosting an event to welcome Michael Yellowlees from Dunkeld, Scotland and his beautiful dog Luna, an Alaskan Husky, who are walking across Canada raising funds and awareness for Trees for Life, a rewilding charity based in Scotland.
They have invited Ottawa Cape Breton Session music makers and others to help celebrate Michael and Luna's arrival in Ottawa. Dust off your Scottish fiddle tunes and bring your picnic, lawn chairs, and meet up at the bandshell in Andrew Haydon Park at 5:30. Don't forget to wear your Cape Breton tartan! There will be bagpipes too!
The first 30 people will receive a complimentary can of IrnBru, Scotland’s other national drink!
Enjoy a late summer evening along the Ottawa River with these inspiring lads and help carry them on their way eastward!
