My Losing Battle
Too Many WRONGLY Call It "Open Enrollment"
Frequent readers know this: I detest when specific language is wrongly used.
The October 15 - December 7 period is the ANNUAL ELECTION PERIOD. It is NOT OPEN.
a. You can't simply sign up for Part B if you missed your actual Initial Election Period,
b. You can't simply enroll in Medigap if you are not within your MEDIGAP OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD.
Let's say you are talking to a newbie, he hears "OPEN." He wrongly gives away the FREE AND POWERFUL options that come with Medicare. These options DO NOT LAST FOREVER.
No one is listening to me, Medicare Rights Center (which trains SHIP, omg), calls it the Fall Open Enrollment period. THE MEDICARE RIGHTS CENTER IS NOW TEACHING UNLICENSED SHIP COUNSELORS THE WRONG TERMINOLOGY.
While I am admittedly a stickler, points a&b are my reason, and I am not going to be pushed off this corner.

Let's say you are Mr Perfect and live check to check. You don't have $1800 a year to pay for Medigap and Part D, it is 100% rational to accept the risk.
So in year 5, the bad stuff happens and you HIT the out of pocket maximum (even that is rare).
1. You pay $4500 out of pocket maximum.
2. During that time, you have saved $1800 x 5 = $9000
3. DID YOU HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL? Mr Perfect knew that point #1 was very unlikely in his instance, and needed the money.
The video and the underlying "evidence" do not mention this huge number of people AT ALL. It is easy to gloss over this, the channel has 3x my views, every month. Yikes.
