TACKLING CLIMATE CHAOS IN THE HEATONS - A DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT IS POSSIBLE

Sustainable Living in the Heatons would love you to join in a
 free zoom event with Q & A

Monday 20th September 2021 at 8pm

Shocking - nearly six in ten young people, aged 16 to 25, are very or extremely worried about climate change, according to the biggest scientific study yet on climate anxiety and young people, published on Tuesday. A similar number said governments were not protecting them, the planet, or future generations, and felt betrayed by the older generation and governments.

What do you think?

And what will the international community ask for at COP26 do when it meets in November in Glasgow?

Ask some local experts and listen to their take on the reality of climate change and what we can do locally.

Our experts include:

Mark Atherton – Director of Environment and Lead on climate matters for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority

Phil Korbel – Director of the Carbon Literacy Project

Stephen Dootson – Businessperson from local renewables company KAST

Nick Leslie – expert in sustainability and now Head of Climate Action Now for Stockport SMBC

Sarah McClelland – Co Chair, a founding member of SLH and a great community activist around the Heatons

Please register and book a place here.

THE GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK

18th- 26th September 2021

The Great Big Green Week is upon us co-ordinated by The Climate Coalition.   The week is an important time to focus our energies in the run up to COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, when the world’s leaders will unite to tackle climate change.

SLH have got our own local events for the week, as well as the zoom discussion above.

FILM 2040 AT THE SAVOY CINEMA

22nd September 6pm

2040, a 90 minute film looking at the effects of climate change over the next 20 years, is coming to our lovely local cinema!  We've worked with the great team at The Savoy Heaton Moor to pull together an interesting and stimulating evening.

In the foyer beforehand there will be stalls with:

  • Carbon Co-op with their new Greater Manchester Local Energy Market engagement stand
  • The Kindling Trust  who will be on hand to tell us about their new farm and other initiatives for local planting and growing
  • The Good Life  will show us how we can do waste-free shopping locally
  • Sustainable Living in the Heatons to show what we are doing locally at the moment to make the Heatons a better place to live now and in the future

Sarah from the SLH team will introduce the film.  We hope you will come along!
