Sydney Airport - blocked off retail

Hello travellers,

Maybe its the smell of spring in the air, but despite lockdown here in Sydney, I'm feeling optimistic.

It feels like . . .

Call me a false prophet, but it feels like there is some positive news on the horizon. A possibility of future freedom for the fully vaccinated.

Heading to Sydney Airport gate 35 on my way from Sydney to Auckland pre-COVID

What happened last week?

Last week was all about 'living with COVID' as Scovid (our Prime Minister) and Gladys (our Premier) put it.

Looks like we are moving towards quarantine at home, with a trial in SA just completed, and one starting in NSW this week. That will be a relief for returning Aussies this Christmas, and may allow an increase in arrival capacity which will please the airlines.

In other news: Virgin Australia extended Velocity membership through to 2023, NZ travel bubble suspension was extended, and Qantas lost its bid to team up with Japan Airlines on routes between Australia and Japan. Arrival cards are to be ditched, and we looked at who might be flying out of Australia and to where, once international borders reopen.

What's coming up?

As international travel for Australians appears on the horizon, I should get back to publishing some flight and hotel reviews .

I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but now might be the time to for us all to contemplate what travel arrangements you want to have in place for 2023, both domestic and international.

In the meantime: Wear a mask, keep your distance, and get vaccinated!

Stephen

By 2paxfly on Sep 18, 2021 10:06 am

New Zealand Deputy prime minister Grant Robertson confirmed that the no-quarantine travel bubble would continue to remain closed for another 8 weeks, taking us through to 12 November. Gosh, my planned trip to the north island timed for the end of November might still happen. Yep, I know, I don’t believe it either. New Zealand […]

COVID-19: Where can we fly to from Australia and when?

By 2paxfly on Sep 15, 2021 04:48 pm

With the so-called road-map to tackle COVID-19 restrictions, Australians in some states are only 3 months away from being able to get back on an international flight without having to seek the government’s permission. This list has lots and lots of caveats. For a start, we don’t know if Scovid, our Prime Minister will open […]
