"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower"
– Albert Camus
Time flies! High temperatures and lingering humidity don't make us feel like the summer is over, yet now we see the signs of fall and record the typical autumn coloration of leaves. Many flowers and fruits have passed, and we are waiting to see the flower buds swell from our late bloomer–the American witch-hazel (the banner of this newsletter showcases its flower). We've been busy all summer long coaching EwA's wonderful summer interns, Kate and Olivia (read their testimonials here), leading public biodiversity events, and running plant, wildlife, and habitat surveys with our citizen scientists. We've further developed the content of the EwA site–an important resource for our community. One critical item that we've added is the EwA Acknowledgement of Biodiversity, Land, and People (read it here).
This fall, join our many events as a guest, as a citizen scientist, or as a volunteer: we'll be showing our community the countless wonders of our urban nature habitats in autumn while documenting the recurring seasonal cycles of fauna and flora. What makes our program unique is that there is truly something for everyone. Happy Fall to All!
