September 2021 Newsletter

Board 11
Left-Right: Jeroen Post (Secretary), Karlijn van der Loo (President), Pedro Louro (Treasurer), Lexi Iburg (External Affairs), Wieke Buijk (Internal Affairs)

Welcome to CS Ubuntu 2021-2022!

Dear Ubuntu members,

After getting to see many familiar and new faces at the pub quiz this week, the 11th board is getting more and more excited about kicking off an amazing 2021!

We hope everyone is getting off to great start of the new academic year and is as excited about getting to see each other in person again this year as we are. Your new board has been hard at work talking to new students at the UIT week and study programs, and finding events which fit regulations and still allow us to see each other. Unfortunately, our board room has to remain closed for now, but as soon as regulations permit we'll be welcoming you into a newly decorated Ubuntu room at Drift!

Besides the first event we just held, we have a few more coming up soon, so further down you'll find more information on that! I also promise that next time around we'll have a more formal picture to introduce ourselves with.

Finally, you may have noticed that we have gained a new board member since the last GA, Jeroen Post, who is now acting as Secretary while Wieke has been acting as Internal Affairs until the first GA. These changes will be explained and voted upon!

Best wishes on behalf of Board 11,

Karlijn van der Loo
President CS Ubuntu 2021-2022

September Monthly Spotlight: a preview:

Due to the pandemic, for a long time now, there has been some media silence around the migration issues the EU has been facing in the past decade. However, recent developments in Afghanistan raise new questions about how to approach the (expected) refugees and what policy should be deemed appropriate.
This provides an opportunity to take a look at EU migration policy today, which is increasingly characterized by so-called migrant pushbacks.
