September Meeting Recap
We had a very good turnout for the September meeting.  Karen Skiff, our speaker was very informative with a great sense of humor!  If you missed the meeting and would like information on the tax implications of selling your art, you can contact Karen at (803)643-0190 or info@karenjskiffcpa.com.
Calling all artists!
 Two opportunities artists:
1) A local man wants to commission an artist  to do a 2' x 4' painting on metal/carbon steel with a South Boundary type scene for outdoor use. If you are interested in this project, contact Ed Thomas (803)640-2428. You can also contact Nancy Kempf at the front desk of ACA.

2) Southside Gallery is having their annual auction for Vets.  They are looking for artists to sell their work. Contact the gallery for details.
Volunteers Needed Please
Get involved and help the Artist Guild!  We need to fill two roles:

1) We desperately need a Program Director.  This board position is responsible for soliciting presenters for our monthly meetings.  This is a great way to meet other artists.  We can help guide you through the process.

2) A volunteer is needed to manage the refreshment area at our monthly meetings.  The snacks and drinks have already been purchased.  It's simply a matter of setting them out on the table!

Please help us fill these roles!
Reminder - FREE WEBINAR this week!
Nancy Reyner is a professional artist from Santa Fe, NM.  We are delighted that she has agreed to be our guest speaker in March (with a different topic)!  Don't miss this opportunity for her exciting webinar!

MEMBERSHIPS and RENEWALS
The AAG membership year has just started so remember to renew your membership soon.  Renewals after November 1 will be considered late, incurring a $5.00 late fee.

Early renewals help your board budget and plan for the coming year. Also, guild membership is a prerequisite for participation in the AAG member show.  You may become an AAG member or renew your membership through the AAG website. In the Menu pull down just select Membership.
The next ACA main gallery show will kick off with a reception on September 9th from 6 to 8 pm and the show will run through October 15th.
Showcased in the AAG Gallery during this show will be:

Brooks Brown and Elizabeth Shirey

Brooks attended the Academy of Art Institute in San Francisco, graduating with a B.F.A. in painting and returned to her family home in the Virgin Islands with a plan to stay six months, she stayed for 45 years.  Brooks retired to Aiken in September of 2018 primarily after seeing the Aiken Training Track with horses, a house for sale that she liked, and a place to hang her art at the Aiken Center for the Arts, all on the same day!
These days Brooks uses an iPhone exclusively to capture and render everyday landscapes, horses, trees, trains, flowers and oceans into works of art.
Brooks knows she's making a one of a kind artograph style with each new photo she creates, but more importantly she's found her Joie de Vivre.  As Ansel Adams once said "I don't take a photograph I make one".  She hopes you'll enjoy the feeling of being "there" when you see her artographs come to life on the walls at Aiken Center for the Arts!

Elizabeth describes her art journey and her work as follows.
I began painting in 2011, picking up a paintbrush for the first time.  I fell in love with it and with oils.  I’m self-taught and prefer realism, even photorealism.  If something or someone catches my eye, I want to paint it.  People’s faces really seem to draw me in.  Flaws, wrinkles, freckles, etc I find the most beautiful.  It is what gives each of us interesting character.  I do, however, also enjoy painting animals, landscapes, seascapes, still life, and whatnot.
Something I do that makes my paintings unique is my addition of an infinity symbol hidden within the art and a real diamond at my signature.  The infinity symbol is an Easter egg of sorts.  I enjoy watching people search for it.  It is added because my daughter and I have a special way of saying we love each other, and the infinity symbol is included. The addition of the diamond is to acknowledge my son as it is his birthstone.  I wouldn’t be who I am today without my children.
