Monday 20th September 2021

Kia ora Bradford Whānau,

There was a very excited buzz around the school at lunchtime today as the first of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako Healthy Lunches in Schools programme Subway orders arrived in classes.  The consensus was that they were 'very yummy.'   We also had a few surplus apples which will be able to be offered in classes for morning tea this week for children that would like some.

The Prime Minister is reassessing the Covid-19 alert levels at 4pm today so fingers crossed we might be able to return to Level 1.  If this is the case, we will make contact with Moana Pool and advise in a separate email if swimming will take place this Wednesday.

Scarlett Hagen, (the Former Junior World Champion, who helped us design the Bradford School Bike Track) is running a series of Mountain Bike classes for 8-11 year olds during Bike Week in the October school holidays.  Each day from 9am-1pm sessions are held on different bike tracks around Dunedin.  Bradford School features in Bike Week on Monday 11 October.  If your child would like to attend any of the sessions then pre-booking is a must as places are limited.  Visit https://bikeschool.co.nz/bookings/mtb-kids/  for more information.

I have left the Kaan's menu below for this week and next so you can see what your child will be offered for lunch tomorrow and the ensuing days.

Week 10
Skyla from R2 was so excited with her Subway lunch today that she wrote two whole pages!
You are right Skyla - it is great to have a free lunch and your Mum does not have to pay.
With the arrival of some warmer weather, we are going to be purchasing some UV Guard SPF 50+ sunscreen for school. This is 4 hours water resistant and is rated the No. 1 sunscreen tested by Consumer NZ.  With one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the World (82 000 per year), we really encourage caregivers to get into the habit of  putting sunscreen on their child daily in the mornings.  The Be Wise Skinwise principle advocates for three applications per day - a habit for life that saves lives!   As part of our school order we are able to offer this same sunscreen to whānau at a great price. Every unit sold earns a donation towards our school.  Please email your child's class teacher if you would like an order form sent home.
POLYFEST POSTPONEMENT
We have been advised that at the moment, the intention is for the Otago Polyfest Week to be postponed until the the 18th-22 October.  That will be Week 1 of Term 4.  We do not have a day or time confirmed yet and further updates will be shared once known.
DYSLEXIA PARENT INFORMATION EVENING POSTPONED UNTIL TERM 4
Term 3 Swimming Update

The return to weekly Wednesday swimming lessons is being reviewed week-to-week by Moana Pool. It is possible that sadly we may not make it back to the pool and there is no availability to reschedule due to existing bookings.  We will keep you informed.
TEACHER ONLY DAY TERM 4

Please be advised that Bradford School will be closed to students on Friday 29th October to allow staff to partake in an exciting professional learning opportunity.  I shall share more details with you closer to the time but this is the second Friday of Term 4, which is the Friday at the end of the week containing Labour Weekend on the Monday.  An opportunity for families to have two long weekends in a row if you'd like to book it in your calendar now.
