Triggered

So many people try to tackle the difficult issue of creating a better life for themselves but can get quickly frustrated if they realize that the tools that they have don't work to help them build the life that they want.

Today, I want us to talk about a real issue. I wanna talk about what gets you riled up.

The guy that cuts you off in traffic
The weatherman that gets the forecast wrong (again)
The Starbucks barista that gets your order wrong (again)
The latest political news...

They are all people that may trigger you and make you go from 0-100 real quick (as the kids say).

But I would have you consider this thought. You choose the way you feel. Because in between the stimulus (douchebag in the Yaris) and the response (You snapping like the "cash me outside girl"), is space. And what lies within that space is choice.

If you think about it though, your choices are influenced by where you are mentally before you get said stimulus. If you aren't taking care of yourself in the first place, it's likely that when it comes time to make choices, you might not be ready to make a choice that will serve you in the long run.

So yeah, there has to be a little bit of selfishness involved in making the world a better place. But it's because it starts with making you a more fulfilled person. You can't give what you don't have. Ponder this for a second. If you can't give to yourself in abundance then you owe it to yourself to find the abundance that we all have within by spending more quality time with yourself.

Spend time with yourself and really get to know who you really are. What do you really want? What triggers you? What can you do to find peace between the stimulus and response? All great questions you can ask yourself with a short reflection at any time of day.

P.S. I just really want to point out that nothing ever happens TO you. The reason why people get triggered is that they take offense to what's happening around them as if it's actually happening to them. I would have you consider that the world happens FOR you based on what you perceive to be happening. All the universe is just happening around us and it's really up to us to interpret what's going on. That's why we love stories so much. There really is no good or bad, it's just a matter of what serves us best at the time...Talk soon!
