Leaf-peeping is our cardio

Crisp autumnal winds are blowing, the leaves will soon be fifty shades of colorful and we're dreaming of a fall foliage tour through our gourd-geous state with our boo by our side. Siri, play Sweater Weather.

Forward this to someone who beleafs in you.

Let's taco 'bout heritage

September 15 - October 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. We wanted to take a minuto to recognize some of our local and muy caliente Hispanic-and-Latino-owned businesses. Alright, no more Spanglish – promesa.

  • Loosely translated, lucha libre means "freestyle wrestling." But at Lucha Libre Ice Cream, we're pretty sure it means freestyle eating. We'll take an ice cream sundae with a churro on top, por favor.
  • Located within the Greensboro Cultural Center, Casa Azul supports local Latino artists by providing resources for creative expression. Why should you go? Picasso said so.
  • What do Rihanna and Natasha Chef have in common? They're both Barbadian bada$$es who love a touch of spice. Chef Natasha Ford can teach you in-person or online, giving you the skills to whip up delicious dinners on your own. Or, if you found love in a hopeless place – um, your kitchen – let her create your date night dish. Your sweetie will thank you.
  • Kiosco Mexican Grill is nacho businesses, but we're gonna fill ya in anyhow. From fajitas to sopas, enchiladas to quesadillas, this eatery will leave you as stuffed as their Super Burrito. Plus, they've got margaritas just how we like 'em: salty and jumbo.
  • Go Greensboro (that's the name – we're not cheerleaders but we totally could be) shares businesses about town and offers video marketing services that will levitate your brand. Just think of them as your sugarboo.

Where can we enroll?

Thursday, September 30, through Saturday October 2, catch Greensboro College's production of School for Scandal, which sounds like our kind of education. With character names like Lady Sneerwell and Sir Peter Teazle, this British comedy of manners is giving us all the Harry Potter vibes.

Oil up the machine

The Barn Dinner Theatre presents Love Machine The Musical – ironically, also our nickname – from October 2 through November 6. This show will have you movin' and groovin' to Motown classics. Witch, please keep your huggin' and kissin' fiendish self at bay.

We're just here for the funnel cake

The Carolina Classic Fair returns to Winston-Salem October 1-10, featuring thrilling rides, festival foods, entertainment for days plus carnival games and contests. Pro tip: Zipper ride first, corndog second.

Toto, we're not in Greensboro anymore

Grab your very own yellow-brick-road squad, fuel up on coffee and munchkins, and skip on down to The AmOZing Race on Saturday, October 2. Perform wizardly activities, collect clues and traipse across downtown in your ruby red Chucks. Costumes not required, but we're not missing out on a chance to wear our naughty Dorothy dress. (Must register in advance.)

You can't spell arboretum without a-r-t

On Sunday, October 3, from 12-5 p.m., stroll through Art in the Arboretum, a juried show featuring 40 regional artists. Plus, there'll be live entertainment, hula-hooping, a honeybee exhibit, "I Spy" activities, two food courts – because they've heard how much we eat – and beer and wine. Hoop, there art is!

Here to pump-kin you up!

Into the Summerfield Farms we go, to lose our minds and find our pumpkin cocktails. Check out the weekly line-up, featuring events for you and the kids:

  • Get your best mountain pose ready, because these goats are ready for some climbing at Goat Yoga on Wednesday, September 29, at 6 p.m.
  • On Thursday, September 30, hit up Pumpkin Night from 4-9 p.m., with food trucks, flowers and a featured hard pumpkin beverage. Humpty Dumpty had a few too many of these and had a great fall.
  • Bring the fam to the farm for Marvel Movie Night featuring Guardians of the Galaxy on Friday, October 1. While comic-based films aren't always our thing, Chris Pratt is. Always.
  • On Sunday, October 3, at 4 p.m., Sweeter by the Batch will guide you through a cookie-decorating workshop. We'll be there when it's over to help "clean-up" the discard pile.

You concert with us

All we need is music – and a few other things we can think of, but let's start there. GSO's live music scene is bumpin' this week. Check out some concert happening highlights:

  • Tonight, it could be Mr. Jones and you, swaying to the tunes of Counting Crows at the Coliseum. Hop in your Big Yellow Taxi, aka Uber, and get there by 7 p.m.
  • Also tonight – if rap is your jam – J. Cole brings his rhymes, his pen, his pad to the Coliseum at 8 p.m.
  • Earth, Wind & Fire will put you in your element at the Coliseum Complex on September 29 at 8 p.m. Do you remember, the 29th night of September?
  • On Thursday, September 30, at 8 p.m., Ronnie Milsap will be strumming out at the Tanger Center with special guest Stephanie Quayle. We wouldn't miss it for the world.
  • Don't miss the opportunity of a lifetime as Feed the Streetz: Legendz of the Streetz Tour rolls through Greensboro on Saturday, October 2, at 7 p.m. Our stop includes Rick Ross, Jeezy and Gucci Mane, along with 2 Chainz and special guests Fabolous, Lil Kim' and Boosie Badazz. And don't forget the drama: DJ Drama, that is.
  • We're Blue Duck-ing it over To Where You Are, aka The Tanger Center, for the Josh Groban concert on Saturday, October 2 at 8 p.m.
  • Maluma's concert at the Coliseum Complex is basically a big surprise party celebrating his latest album, Papi Juancho, which he dropped without warning. When he steps on stage, on the count of three . . . 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . Surprise!

Fall fashion must: lederhosen

This weekend, you've got two beer-tiful opportunities to celebrate our fav month: Oktoberfest.

  • Friday, October 1, through Sunday, October 3, SouthEnd Brewing will be buzzing with games, food trucks, live music, a vendor market and local breweries. Give into the beer pressure and go.
  • On Saturday, October 2, drive your wagen to Whitsett for Oktoberfest at the Lager Haus at Red Oak Brewery. Prost!

Better pack a change of underpants

The Woods of Terror are back for the entire month of October with attractions to feed on your biggest fears. Arachnophobia? Check. It's fight or flight, witches. Or – if you're like us – freeze and hope someone pulls you out alive and with clean underwear.

Every town has an Elm Street

Visit Greensboro's historic haunts on the Nightmare Around Elm Street, select dates throughout October. This 90-minute walking tour will take you through places the undead are said to linger. Be prepared to run. Recommended shoes: Brooks Ghost. (The unofficial and non-sponsored running shoe of O.Hey.)

Spooking of Halloween . . .

There's a reason that USA Today named Spooky Woods a 2021 Top Haunted Attraction in America and we're not sure we want to know what it is. But if you're the kind of boo who likes being scared sheetless, grab your tickets for any weekend in October.

Off the rails

Nobody puts the boo in caboose like Blowing Rock's Tweetsie Ghost Train, running every Friday and Saturday in October. Your golden ticket gets you the ride that ends of your lifetime, trick-or-treating, a haunted house visit, creepy carnival rides and too many other things that are already giving us nightmares.

#SquashGoals

The McLaurin Farms Pumpkin Patch is officially opened for pickin' a gourd one, weekends through October 31. Carve out some time for family fun!

We'll have what she's having

Looking forward to a cozy Netflix & chill kind of weekend? Check out this list of iconic films to get you in the mood – for fall. No matter what, we hope it's a scream.
