Presidio Family Newsletter

September 24, 2021

Dear Presidio Panther Families,

We love the spirit of our young Panthers - they had a great time last Friday showing off their style on Pajama Day. Congratulations to Mr. Chan’s 8th Grade, Ms. Solomon’s 7th Grade, and both Mr. Todd and Mr. Jensen’s 6th Grade Advisories - they were the most spirited classes and have been awarded custom made buttons for their bags, backpacks and jackets in recognition of the joy they contribute to our school community.

Presidio and Beacon are slowly launching clubs - students should check the bulletin daily to see what’s going on. Clubs students can join will include: Black Student Union, Gay Straight Alliance, Filipinix Cultural Club, Pets & Pals, The Black and White Newspaper, Creative Writing, Anime, Chess, Cooking, Ping-Pong and more.

We remind our students to show Presidio Panther Pride all the time and in all ways; this means to:

  • Be Respectful: What you say.

  • Be Responsible: What you do.

  • Represent Presidio: How you grow.

How our students represent in the wider community is part of showing Presidio Pride. Please encourage your child to be respectful and responsible when representing local businesses.

It is also important that, together with parents, we encourage students to make wise and healthy choices. If your child has spending money during the week, please check in with them to find out how they are using it. We will remove bags of candy and all sodas and caffeinated drinks from students if these items are brought to school. It’s exciting enough to be a middle schooler without starting the day on a stomach full of sugar and caffeine. Healthy breakfast and lunch choices are available daily to all students for free in our cafeteria.

Finally, our teachers enjoy connecting with you! Unfortunately, due to the instructional schedule, we cannot accommodate casual drop-in visits to classrooms to meet teachers - if you would like to meet with a teacher, please arrange the meeting at least 24 hours in advance - this is best done by emailing them directly through ParentVue. If you need support connecting with a teacher, please contact your child’s counselor.

I cannot stress enough how it is by taking collective responsibility for each other that we will keep our children and our families as safe as possible from Covid19. Please review and follow all of the below guidelines from SFUSD on a daily basis. If your child or a family member becomes ill, please notify myself dunbare@sfusd.edu  and our nurse, Juliette Liu liuj5@sfusd.edu - even if it is the weekend.

Yours in Community,

Ms. Dunbar, Presidio Principal

Before Coming to School: Daily Health Screening

Staying home when sick is an important way that we protect each other from the spread of COVID-19.

Answer these questions for yourself or your child everyday before coming to school:

Has your child had any symptoms listed below that are new or different from usual?

  • Fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher) or chills

  • Cough

  • Headache

  • Sore throat

  • Loss of taste or smell that started in the last 10 days (Children may say that food “tastes bad” or “tastes funny”)

  • Feeling out of breath or having a hard time breathing

  • Nasal congestion or runny nose

  • Diarrhea, nausea or vomiting

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle aches or body aches

If your child has any of the symptoms above:

  • Contact your child’s doctor, and have your child tested for COVID-19.

  • Keep your child at home until you get their test results.

  • Contact your child's school.

If you are not fully vaccinated, in the past 10-14 days, have you had “close contact” with anyone who has COVID-19 during their contagious period?

  • If your child was fully vaccinated for COVID-19, they can keep going to school. Consider having them tested for 3-5 days after their close contact.

  • If your child was not fully vaccinated for COVID-19, they must stay home. Follow the quarantine instructions.

Have you tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days?

  • If you or your child(ren) answered yes, please stay at home.

  • If you or your child(ren) answered no, you can keep going to school.

Boys Soccer

The Panthers lost 4-3 against Lick on Wednesday, 9/22.
Roy M. scored two goals and Tolson S. made one. Jack G. played goalie. The team closes out the regular season today against Roosevelt.  No chance for the playoffs but the team's hoping to finish with a win and more importantly to get its young core of players some playing time to build for a playoff run in 2022.
