GAYography

LGBTQI World News, Advocacy & Virtual Travel & Events

All the Gay News That's Fit to Link

Made possible by Ashton, the GAYographer
Good morning <<First Name>>,

Above we remember child actor Tommy Kirk who starred in Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, and other Disney classics -- and was cut out of the business after coming out.

He passed away this week at 79.

I'm headed to DC Wednesday - and attending this event for Danica Roem that day - critical LGBTQ representation in the VA legislature. Hope you can join!

Have an awesome weekend,

Ashton

If you have Republican friends (or leanings) - be aware of how far Mike Pence is going to support far-right anti-LGBTQ forces linked to Russia. Above he's meeting Hungarian President Viktor Orban, and the linked story shows him meeting with a US-sanctioned pro-Russia nationalist. Thankfully LGBTQ activists had a win this week, as 4 of the 5 "LGBTQ-Free" zones repealed their laws in the face of EU sanctions. For more information you can read and subscribe to Rémy Bonny, who researches the shadowy ties between Russia and and very anti-LGBTQ forces in Eastern Europe with Forbidden Colours.

Do you want to help elect one of the first out gender non-conforming people? Bret Jacob could be the first in Rhode Island's legislature that's not Mr. or Ms. with your help! And if you'll be in Nashville on Oct 7 Victory or in Houston Oct 30 - Victory will hold events to support queer candidates around the country. In July, I joined the Victory Fund Campaign Board in an effort to be involved in our political process - not only because of the current state of politics, but also because I've been involved for so long. I hope you'll join me in supporting LGBTQ candidates!

1 in 480 have died of COVID in the US - as we near the grim milestone of 700,000 deaths (still the most in any one country). Vaccination is the key (even parents are getting onboard) though Merck now has a new antiviral drug. Still this week Brett Kavanaugh got breakthrough. Australia's borders will finally open to vaccinated citizens (though they still must test and quarantine); foreign visitors will still likely not be able to return until 2022. The US plans to open in "early November" to Europeans (no details are confirmed) and the US is still advising citizens not to travel to 12 EU countries.

Recent German elections, which saw a decline in the far-right AfD - thanks perhaps to moves by an activist group that duped the party into fake flyer services - also saw the election of 2 trans candidates in the pivotal Green Party, that will make up a governing coalition.

Not a surprise, but the latest public move - Russia is now labelling LGBTQ and other movements promoting women's rights as "extremist" - another step outlawing any groups or actors promoting equality.

The US Christian Right - is really troll farms run out of Eastern Europe - every one of the top 20 Christian sites, save one!

California banned state travel to Ohio after they passed a law that allows health-care providers to discriminate against LGBTQ people.

An Orlando-area high school elected a newly out trans student as homecoming queen.
