Welcome Back!
After a challenging summer for everyone, we are delighted to finally begin our fall semester! For information on all our programming, go to our website. In this month's newsletter we are highlighting below two exciting initiatives for our students to take part in.
Culture Days -
KCMS Masquerade this Saturday
As part of the nationwide Culture Days event supported by the
City of Kelowna,
KCMS Invites you to a Masquerade!
When: Saturday, September 25, 11:30 am-12:30pm
Who: Everyone – it’s free!
Where: Rotary Centre for the Arts green space (front lawn)
What: Music, games, prizes (and an opportunity to see KCMS staff and faculty in some rather interesting outfits!).
Head to https://rotarycentreforthearts.com/events/event/93802/ to reserve a spot (attendance is limited!!).
We are looking for student volunteers in a variety of roles:
- overseeing craft tables and games
- baking for our cake walk
- musicians (intermediate and advanced students)
If you wish to take part in volunteering, you can email Jessica Crawford here. This will count towards an Honour Roll credit (see below for information on how this will work this year).
Our Honour Roll has had a Makeover
This year, we are offering a new way to be included on our 2021/202 Honour Roll. Starting on October 1, in order to attain a spot on the roll, students must:
- maintain a steady practice schedule of 20 days a month from
October 1 to April 30
- attend/volunteer/perform at 4 music events.
These events can include school/community band concerts, church music, recitals, attending concerts of any kind as an audience member or performer, or volunteering your time at any music event.
Practice and event attendance must be recorded in our new Honour Roll booklets, which are being handed out by teachers starting this week. We are hopeful that this will make attaining Honour Roll standing more clear, and will help to foster involvement in and enjoyment from our music culture and community.
Thank you for supporting your children in their musical efforts!
