SPRING LOCKDOWN

NOTE THE DATE CHANGE
A Personal Idaho Backcountry Flying Experience

by David Evans
Thursday 30th September at 7:00 pm

APOLOGIES - the original event clashed with another commitment for the speaker.

Abstract: As a precursor to Oshkosh in 2018, David Evans took a diversion to Boise, Idaho to do some conversion training in a Kitfox 7 Super Sport, an aircraft he currently has under construction. As part of that training, he also did some backcountry flying that introduced him to some aspects of flying that the average GA/recreational pilot doesn’t think too much about. This presentation is about that experience.

Personal: David learnt to fly about 30 years ago, took time out from it for 20 years, only returning to flying again in 2016. To date he has around 230 hours in a mix of nose and tailwheel aircraft and is currently building a Kitfox 7 Super Sport aircraft. David holds a B.Eng in Aeronautical Engineering (1977) from RMIT University and was the Chief Engineer at Boeing Aerostructures Australia until his retirement in 2010.

All welcome!

High Performance Sportspersons

The Victorian Government permits professional and high performance sportspersons to undertake training under strict condiitions.

Professional or high-performance sportspersons are listed as authorised workers and defined as "Individuals who meet one or more of the following conditions will be defined as professional or high-performance sports persons:
• Perform their sporting activity in an open-aged national or international competition. ....."

That covers a number of aerobatic pilots here!

Of course, conditions apply. The sporting association must have a COVID Safe Plan etc etc.

Unfortunately, I haven't competed in the national aerobatic championships recently however I may fit under the bit about "workers that support the safe running of that person’s professional sport".

Why I'm doing the Tour de Kids Challenge

I'm participating in Starlight’s Tour de Kids cycling challenge to raise money for sick kids.

We've all recently experienced periods of uncertainty and social isolation, and children and families who manage serious illness face this every day. Please sponsor me and help brighten the lives of sick kids.

I'm cycling 100km in 30 days to raise money for sick kids.

It has been too long. I regret buying HEZ just prior to the pandemic. UPG is just pouring money into Moorabbin Airport. It is time to stop pretending that I am still running an aviation business. More later.
Let me know if anyone would like to chat about aviation theory and we can do it on Zoom, no charge. Especially aerobatics, spinning, tailwheel, aerodynamics, performance and weight & balance.

Looking forward to seeing you at the airport soon for the permitted social interaction -- email David.
