ANNOUNCING THE CARBON FOOTPRINTING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Carbon footprinting is an increasingly valued and marketable skill across the public and private sectors. UNH is pleased to announce that we are launching a new 4-course Carbon Footprinting Certificate Program through UNH Professional Development and Training!

SIMAP team members Alley Leach and Jenn Andrews are teaching two half-day virtual courses this fall: These courses can be taken on their own, or as part of the newly launched Carbon Footprinting Certificate Program through UNH Professional Development and Training. We hope you will join us and share this opportunity with your colleagues and students who may be interested!

NEW GRITS-SIMAP SYNC AND FREE SIMAP PROMO

We are excited to announce a new sync feature in GRITS that allows SIMAP users to jumpstart the climate action planning process!

The new functionality allows for a quick import of emissions and energy data from users' SIMAP accounts into GRITS. SIMAP's GRITS Report shows the data points that will be transferred.
GRITS is offering a complimentary SIMAP Tier 1 subscription for any institution that subscribes (or renews an existing subscription) to GRITS Unlimited! Current SIMAP users are also welcome to take advantage of this opportunity to extend their access. This promo will last throughout Campus Sustainability Month and end on November 1, 2021. Contact support@gogrits.org for more information about this promotion.

UPCOMING WEBINAR ON SIMAP UPDATES

Register here for our October 6th webinar on plans for new functionality and updates on our ongoing research

Our webinar on SIMAP updates will bring you up to speed on our latest work! We will share updates on our plans for the next version of emission factors, new calculations on emissions from electric vehicles and telecommuting, our ongoing research on upstream energy emissions, recent updates to degree days, and our plans for implementing feedback from the Commuting Working Group in SIMAP.

SIMAP IS PRESENTING AT THE VIRTUAL GCSHE CONFERENCE

SIMAP team member Alley Leach is presenting on 'The Carbon and Nitrogen Footprint of Food' as a pre-recorded on-demand session for the AASHE's Virtual Conference on October 12-14. Check out this and other pre-recorded sessions, and be sure to tune in for the livestream!
RECENT SIMAP UPDATES

Degree days: In August 2021, the degree days in SIMAP were updated to correct for differences in the timeframes of NOAA's Degree Day Data. Previous total degree days in SIMAP were not aligned and were missing a portion of the cooling degree days. This has been corrected.

New electricity emission factors: Earlier this year, eGrid and Green-e released new emission factors for the year 2019. We will be incorporating these new emission factors into SIMAP when we release the 2021 version of emission factors in early 2022. In the meantime, see this page for instructions for entering these new factors as custom emission factors in your SIMAP account.

WORKING GROUP UPDATES

We continue to co-facilitate working groups on nitrogen, commuting, and bioenergy

  • The Nitrogen Working Group is developing new strategies for communication and outreach around nitrogen.
  • The Commuting Working Group provided guidance on improved methods, and we are working on incorporating those new methods into SIMAP.
  • The Biogenic Working Group is continuing to improve transparency in biogenic and land use reporting.
  • New working group: This fall, we plan to launch a working group on purchased goods. Contact us at simap@unh.edu if you are interested in participating.
