WIDI WIRE

Edition # 3

Welcome / Wominjeka

The Workforce Innovation and Development Institute (WIDI) acknowledges the people of the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nation and the other various Indigenous groups on whose unceded lands we conduct our business. We respectfully acknowledge their Ancestors and Elders, past, present and emerging.

Message from the Director

As Australia's fastest growing jobs sector, the social services have a vital role to play in Victoria's economic recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, WIDI has launched the Skills in Practice (SkIP) Project allowing for 600 new workers be employed in the disability and aged care worker roles.

The SkIP Project has been collaboratively put together and co-deigned with partners of industry, to deliver either Certificate IV in Disability or
Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) to new workers.

Funded by the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, as part of the Working for Victoria fund, it allows all 600 new workers gain an accredited qualification while being employed and filling existing vacancies,
at an Industry Rewards Rate.

SkIP PROVIDES A JOBS BOOST FOR
DISABILITY SECTOR IN VICTORIA

Micaela Cronin

Jobs Boost For Disability Sector
A Win-Win For Victorians

Jobs Victoria will create 600 new jobs in the disability sector helping people who’ve been impacted by the pandemic and are looking to change careers into a vibrant and growing sector.

The ‘earn and learn’ scheme will mean people can work and earn an income while they get the skills they need for a great new career. The program is a partnership between WIDI at RMIT, the peak body for disability service organisations, National Disability Services, unions and disability service organisations.

It’s just one way the Victorian Government is helping support Victorians looking for work and the broader Victorian community. If you’re looking for support to secure a job, go to jobs.vic.gov.au or call 1300 208 578.

With much sadness, we share the news of a great loss in the passing of community activist, campaigner and former ACOSS President, Merle Mitchell.

Merle helped inform and shape some of the Institute’s early work in the Aged care and Australian Social Service Sector.

Condolences to her family and friends during this sad time.
