UNGA 76 events round up!
The 76th UN General Assembly High-Level General Debate begins today Tuesday 21 September through to Monday 27 September 2021, focusing on "Building resilience through hope - to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainability, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations". Below, you'll find some special events on NCDs.
- Wednesday 22 September 2021 - a WHO session on meeting NCD and mental health-related SDG targets, hosted by the UN Interagency Task Force on NCDs. Join panellists from various organisations including Katie Dain, CEO of the NCD Alliance.
- Friday 24 September 2021 - a special side event organised by NCD Alliance, Viatris and the American College of Cardiology on working together to support people living with NCDs and HIV.
- Monday 27 September 2021 - an official UNGA 76 side event commemorating 10 years since the first Political Declaration on the Prevention and Control of NCDs, hosted by WHO, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NCD Alliance.
- Tuesday 28 September 2021 - join NCD Alliance and partners for the launch of the Facing Foward video series with BBC StoryWorks, sharing the stories of people living with NCDs around the world.

After an incredible performance of the Turning the Tide series, the NCD Alliance is launching a second series titled 'Facing Forward'. Produced by BBC StoryWorks, this series will continue to raise awareness of NCDs and highlight the stories of people living with them across the globe. Making the case for integrating NCDs
A new report by The George Institute for Global Health and the NCD Alliance argues that decade-long political commitments to integrate noncommunicable disease (NCD) services with services for priority groups for major global health initiatives such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and maternal and child health have not translated into reality. Healthcare in many countries does not yet respond to the needs of people living with NCDs, which have come to be the leading causes of death and disability worldwide.

Africa NCDs Network discusses opportunities for NCDs and UHC
Ahead of this year's Regional Committee Meeting for Africa (AFRO RCM), the Africa NCDs Network hosted a virtual event on 12 August 2021 to discuss opportunities to position NCDs and UHC at the AFRO RCM. As a result, a statement was submitted and read at the AFRO RCM, highlighting the fight against cervical cancer and other NCDs in the region.
