El Salvador: 5 cities in 2 weeks

During the weeks of August 30 and September 6, I (Dan) taught workshops in San Miguel and Cojutepeque with pastors and leaders in the Federation of Baptist Churches of El Salvador. We also made side trips to La Unión and Jucuapa to visit two ministries. And we traveled to Soyapango to make plans for future workshops. It felt great to get back into the field!!!

1. San Miguel: taught a workshop

The first week, we taught a small but very dedicated group of Baptists in San Miguel. Two of the participants walked 3 hours and rode the bus 2 hours each day for four days to attend the workshop. Two other participants rode the bus 4 hours each day. I was joined by intern Mike Williamson, a pastor from St. Cloud, MN who helped teach the workshop. Herbert Hernandez was the interpreter and Jaime Peña was the workshop coordinator.

2. Cojutepeque: taught another workshop

The second week, we taught a much larger group of Baptists in Cojutepeque (pronounced koh-hoo-teh-peh'-kay). The larger group made for lively teaching and discussion on the attributes of God.

On the final day of the second week, members of the San Miguel group joined us for a combined picture of both groups (below).

3. La Unión: visited participants' children's ministry

Between the two workshops, we traveled to La Unión (pronounced loon-yohn'), the eastern-most city in El Salvador, to observe the ministry of two of our workshop participants. They have been ministering to 30-40 neighborhood children every Saturday on the outskirts of the city for the past four years.

4. Jucuapa: visited participants' church

Between the two workshops, we also visited a church pastored and led by two of our workshop participants on the outskirts of the town of Jucuapa (pronounced hoo-kwah'-pah) to participate in a Sunday afternoon worship service. They have been conducting services in this small shed-like structure for several years.

5. Soyapango: planned future workshops

On the last day of the trip we stopped in Soyapango to hold a meeting with leaders of a church in Santa Tecla where I taught four workshops in 2018-2019. We gathered for fellowship and to plan for the teaching of Beth's children's ministry workshop and other advanced workshops in the future.

Prayer requests
  • For my upcoming teaching trip to Guatemala October 11
  • For National Missionary Partners who are teaching workshops in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Peru in the next two months
  • For planning new workshop series in El Salvador with churches of the Central American Mission
  • For planning new workshop series in Haiti and several new countries - Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras
  • Additional funding is needed for our Latin American National Missionary Partners now that they are able to travel again

Thank you!

You are missionary "senders!" We are merely an extension of you, the body of Christ on earth. As you pray and give, we are able to "go" to train indigenous pastors in Latin America. Those pastors, in turn, use this training to equip others. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your participation in the gospel extending God's kingdom to the ends of the earth.

God bless you and yours,
Dan and Beth
