Let Us Pray (from The Treasury of Daily Prayer)
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! (Psalm 133:1)
Lord God, heavenly Father, through the prophet Jonah, You continued the prophetic pattern of teaching Your people the true faith and demonstrating through miracles Your presence in creation to heal it of its brokenness. Grant that Your Church may see in Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the final end-times prophet whose teaching and miracles continue in your Church through the healing medicine of the Gospel and the Sacraments; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Village Youth News
Middle School Retreat: We are planning a Middle School Higher Things Retreat here at Village!!
Jesus calls us to live in the world, but not to be conformed to the world around us. This is a difficult challenge! There are so many different messages given to us about what kind of life we should live today—it can blow our minds! This retreat will focus on what the Bible says about the Christian life and how you as a junior high student live as a Christian today. At this retreat, you will get to think about how to live as a Christian in a 21st century world.
When: Nov.5-6, 2021
Where: Village
Cost: $35 per person
Registration deadline is Oct. 22.
You will find the registration forms online at https://www.villagelutheranchurch.org/higher-things-retreat.html. Please hand registration to Kristine Boehlke.

September 22 Faith Formation Night
Please join your Village family each Wednesday for Faith Formation Night! Each week starts with a family meal starting at 5 PM, continues with education hour from 6 PM to 7 PM, and concludes with a brief service of Compline. Schola Cantorum (children's choir) and Psallite (high school and adult choir) rehearse at 4 PM and 7:15 PM respectively, so there are many opportunities to learn, share fellowship, and worship. There are educational opportunities for potty-trained children through "experienced" church members. If you plan on joining us for the meal, please sign-up here so we can provide enough food. See you Wednesday!

Altar Guild Volunteers Needed
The Altar Guild needs at least four volunteers for Holy Communion setup and cleanup. One to two people can set the altar on Saturdays or early Sunday mornings, and another person or couple is needed to clean up after Sunday’s late services. The volunteer schedule rotates monthly, and training is available. Volunteers are also needed for other services (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc.) throughout the church year.
If you are interested in serving on the Altar Guild, please contact Marilyn Daughhetee (marilyn5162@att.net) or the church office (314-993-1834).

Stewardship Thought
Mark 9:45 – “And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell.” So, what is causing us to sin? Lust? Greed? Fear? It’s better to cut “it” off! We need the Lord’s help to do this, and you are in the right place this Lord’s Day to receive that help through Word and Sacrament!

Witness & Outreach Thought
Mark 9:38-50: Becoming a disciple of Jesus by our own choosing is impossible for us! We cannot choose Him. He chooses us and equips us to be His people in action. Through us, He is still calling sinners to repentance and a life with purpose and meaning. We are blessed to be His ambassadors and to help in this process of calling people to Jesus. May we do it with joy and fervent love for God in our witness.
