Welcome to the CucCAP Chronicle

The CucCAP project is developing genomic resources to increase disease resistance in cucurbit crops for the cucurbit community. The CucCAP website provides news about CucCAP grant activity, cucurbit diseases, and cucurbit crop production to a broad audience including crop producers, plant pathologists, plant breeders, plant genome scientists, and vegetable extension specialists.

CucCAP Featured Article

CucCAP researchers from Clemson University and USDA-Charleston identified two major and seven minor QTL using a cross between the resistant melon breeding line MR-1 and susceptible cultivar Ananas Yoqne’am. Work is underway to develop KASP markers to facilitate breeding for these QTL and test their association with resistance to Pseudoperonospora cubensis isolates.

CucCAP scientist Matthew Uebbing's research is focused on evaluating fungicide sensitivity of Pseudoperonospora cubensis to fungicides, efficacy of forecasters in controlling CDM, and spore trapping of P. cubensis.

On August 3, the Plant Health 2021 Idea Café hosted a discussion titled,“Emerging Viruses in Cucurbits”.  The large number of attendees at this idea café illustrates the level of concern in the cucurbit industry over the increasing emergence and spread of viruses infecting cucurbit crops in the U.S., as well as globally.
