💀 Find a headstone in your backyard? Don’t panic

Plus: A special giveaway for our readers.

By Grace Madigan

Hi there, today is the 21st day of September.

Which coincidentally means I’ll be wearing this t-shirt all day and wishing I could go out and badger every bar/club/restaurant to play the infamous Earth, Wind & Fire song. But alas, it is a Tuesday, and like any responsible adult, I will have to wait for this special day to come around on a weekend to truly revel in the special occasion.

To start off this hopefully memorable (for all the right reasons) 21st of September, read on to see what’s happening in Seattle and for a special giveaway.

There's no such thing as a bad pic of Rainier. 🏔 | Tag @the_evergrey or use #theevergrey to be featured in our Instagram of the Day. (📸: @jeremycainekinnetz

4 things Seattle is talking about

⛳️ Hit the links decked out in Macklemore’s new golf line. Bogey Boys debuted this past weekend in the former space of Totokaelo on Capitol Hill. The rapper admits he developed a love for the sport’s fashion from the ‘70s before he fell in love with the actual game. The clothing line takes today’s “insurance salesman” look for golfers and gives it a cool, retro-inspired update. The pop-up is open daily 11 a.m.-7 p.m. (Seattle Met)

🍊 Want some organic juice? Here’s where you can get some in the Market. Rhonda Faison opened rōJō Juice in 2020 and offers customers fresh, organic juices without any added ingredients. As a Black-owned and woman-owned business, Faison acknowledges the challenges of “maneuvering in this world” and on top of that, trying to run a business during a global pandemic. She just hopes everyone remembers to be kind to each other. (South Seattle Emerald)

💀 Don’t be surprised if you go digging in your backyard and find a headstone. Despite the city of Seattle being relatively young, the state’s physical anthropologist estimates he gets two to three calls a year from people reporting they found headstones on their property. The reason for these odd discoveries is likely because they were used as fill to level properties off or correct drainage problems. Typically, the headstones were ones that had defects like the wrong dates, or they were temporary markers and made of concrete. So bottom line: If you find one of these headstones while doing some backyard work, don’t freak out. There probably isn’t a body that goes with it. 😅(The Seattle Times)

🇵🇭This sandwich is NSFW. I tend to get tired of people calling an image of a delicious-looking dish “food porn.” But then you see sandwiches like these, and you find the phrase perfectly acceptable to use. Lasa Sandwiches & Pearls in Lynnwood is a new Filipino restaurant that was featured in the most recent Sub Missives column. And it has moved quickly to the top of my list of places to try. Read about the sandwich spot here. 👉(The Stranger)

One more thing …

Here’s a daily recommendation from yours truly: Go take advantage of the last few days of sunshine and meet a friend at a park. A frequent meetup spot for me is South Lake Union which I can bike down to and avoid traffic. Bring a couple of beers to share, and you’ve got a great after-work hang without the price of fancy cocktails.

Like always, we’ll be back tomorrow. Until then, have a great day and 21st night of September. ✌️
