September 2021                                                                           Volume III, Issue 4

Sitting on our front porch on Saturday afternoons we can hear UNCFSU's marching band practicing in Jeralds stadium.  Long sleeves in the evenings, fall (and some Christmas) decor in stores, the heady aroma of pumpkin spice wafting on the breeze... yep, fall is most definitely in the air!

And of course, fall also heralds the beginning of holiday shopping season!  The Downtown Alliance is hard at work creating promotions and activities to entice folks downtown throughout the remainder of the year.  We're bringing back some of our more popular activities from previous years as well as working on some new things to welcome the community in.  More on these in a minute.

What's Coming Up?

We’d like to thank all the businesses that participated in our Shop With Friends Weekend event.  Folks seemed to enjoy themselves and a quick spot check showed upticks in business at several participating locations.  Thanks to all for helping make it a success!

Now, let's talk about our upcoming promotions and events:

Coming up on Saturday, October 23 we're bringing back the annual Downtown Pumpkin Trail.  Visitors will have maps available for this self-guided tour of pumpkin display locations at participating businesses.  Participants will be able to vote for their favorites and will be eligible for prizes.

And on Thursday, October 28, we're BACK, witches!  Our extremely popular Witches Night Out returns downtown.  Creative costumes and high... um... spirits will be in abundance!

In Other News

During the City-hosted monthly downtown parking meeting in September, City, PWC, and Cool Spring Downtown District representatives gave updates on ongoing construction projects, events, and other items which might impact our visitors' downtown experience.

PWC stated that the Maiden Lane project may be completed by mid-October, instead of the anticipated November date, because the Ray Avenue storm drain upgrades have been removed from the scope and will be performed in a separate project in the future.

The Woodpeckers' home season ended last week and no playoff games will take place there.

Segra, however, will have a golf event October 1-3.  This event will not trigger event parking rates.

The African World Peace Festival has been canceled, as are most of the events and activities held during the International Folk Festival.  No information is currently available about Fall Dogwood or Dickens.

It's currently unknown whether the Downtown trolley go-live planned to coincide with the IFF, will still happen that weekend.  The planned 30 minute trolley route will be a loop beginning at Hay & Ray, traveling up to Haymount, then back down to Franklin @ B, and return to Hay @ Ray.  The trolley will recognize the existing FAST bus stops and there will be no fare for this route.

September's 4th Friday event, Around The World, will still take place, as will the street entertainment portion of any 4th Friday.

Welcome to our new members!

Member Spotlight: LATCH Breastfeeding and Postpartum Wellness Center

Philosophy- The idea of LATCH was born when Sarah, a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), saw the need for better and more holistically-minded postpartum support through the families she worked with in her practice doing home visits. Formerly known as Naturally the Best Lactation Services, Sarah has served the Fayetteville community for over 5 years. As a previously hospital based nurse-midwife, Cinthya's passion for postpartum wellness grew from her own experience and from watching women transition into motherhood.

"I am constantly looking for ways to help our community support resources grow and thrive in the interest of breastfeeding. In recognizing the need for better local support, I helped to create and implement the only laser tongue tie release program in our area and the first in the state.” - Sarah Lester
