Free Online Libraries
You Should Know About

A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life” as said by Henry Ward Beecher, an American Congregationalist. If a library facility is free and accessible everywhere then it is surely a luxury. Since childhood, we have been taught about the benefits of reading. Francis Bacon, an English philosopher terms ‘reading’ as an ornament of a man while Nabokov, a Russian novelist calls it a pleasure to have a book to read before going to bed. For a bibliophile, there is perhaps nothing more life-changing than reading a good book. There are more than 129,864,880 books in the world. Isn’t that a huge number? In this blog, we are going to discuss various free online libraries available for readers across the world. Learn more HERE.

  Learning Resources

Most people work for more than just a paycheck. They want to feel good about the job they do and how they are treated in their workplace. They want to be appreciated, which means more than a yearly acknowledgement at a staff day event or a card and a cake on their birthday. Neglected employees can become cynical and apathetic, and your better employees might leave, even when offered a raise.

Positive reinforcement is not the same as empty compliments. It’s a proven, three-step process – catch them, tell them, reinforce the good behavior – of focusing on an employee’s successes rather than their mistakes. It’s based on timely, sincere, and specific praise and gratitude and is the best method in the supervisor’s toolkit for improving productivity and workplace relationships.

Topics include how and when to use positive reinforcement, the better ratios for praise versus criticism, and when praise is not enough.

Following this webinar, you will know how to:
  • Improve the quality of interactions with library employees.
  • Apply positive reinforcement to relationships with library customers and co-workers.
  • Become more influential with leadership inside and outside of the library.

VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING DURING COVID: WHAT WE WISHED WE HAD KNOWN IN ADVANCE & WHAT WE LEARNED DURING THE PROCESS
Wed October 6 at 1:00 pm

This webinar will provide an overview of how a group of academic and public librarians in Laramie, Wyoming provided a series of programming about African American poetry and music.

Presenters will talk about how they pivoted from a programming series initially intended to be in-person to a fully virtual set of programs during the COVID pandemic. They will share practical tips for what to keep in mind when planning accessible virtual programs, how academic and public libraries can collaborate to create dynamic programming that appeals to all ages, and how you can produce a video event.

Finally, they will discuss the good and the bad and note areas where practices can be improved to help you avoid pitfalls in advance when planning remote programs!

If you're interested but not able to attend the live webinar, go ahead and register. We'll send a recording to all registrants after the fact.

Join us for our upcoming webinar, Virtual Learning during a Pandemic and After, to learn how one library launched a virtual learning series with new and pre-existing content, with a focus on helping families facilitate hard conversations with children.

Within a week of closing the building in March 2020, the Oak Park (IL) Public Library’s Children’s Services department launched a virtual learning series featuring daily songs, book recommendations, mindfulness activities, and social and emotional learning experiences. The Children’s Services department collaborated closely with the Communications team to grow the series from short videos designed for at-home storytimes to a comprehensive virtual learning platform for children of all ages and abilities that includes thematic weekly posts, early literacy activities, additional library resources, and more. Learn how to create a similar virtual learning framework and what outreach practices can help make it a success. REGISTER NOW!
