For every new member we bring in, we'll have it matched dollar for dollar.
Hi <<First Name>>,
As we head into the final week of DAME’s first membership drive, I’m awed by the support we’ve gotten. And what’s more, one of our generous members has offered to match up to $1,000 in new membership support so your impact will be doubled!
If you know us, you’ll know that we’re fiercely determined to stay independent—free from venture capital or advertising or any outside influence—so that we’re accountable to the only constituency that matters: you.
But with this comes the risk of not having a financial cushion or a capital bridge when we need it. That’s why monthly support is so critical for us. Quality journalism is expensive, and it should be. We believe in paying a fair and competitive rate to our writers, and frankly, we want to be paying more.
With an additional 2,500 members at an average of $10 per month, here’s what we can do:
Increase our rates: We can raise our features rate from $500 to $750, which would make us more competitive with mainstream outlets bankrolled by venture capital or corporate donors.
Tell bigger stories: We can devote more time and resources to truly ambitious and essential enterprise reporting on the most pressing issues of our time: the climate crisis, voting rights, and assaults on democracy.
Expand the team: Currently, we’re just a three-person team (yes, you read that right). With more funding, we’d be able to add at least one more editor to the roster and a community manager to better engage with you to ensure we’re delivering the editorial you want.
Fuel the business: We’d have the security to know that general operating costs like hosting, legal, and accounting expenses are easily covered each month.
Our independence also means that we can be an essential counterweight to big corporate media, which is so needed in an era of bothsideism and beltway narratives that are absent nuance and context.
