Hi  everyone

I'm sure many of you are breathing a sigh of relief moving into Level-3.  Sadly although beauticians, hairdressers, gyms, yoga and fitness centres can't trade under Level-3 many of the fitness businesses have online classes so make sure you tune into those. If you are anything like me you'll be very keen to see the hair salons open again!

A reminder to keep posting on Waiuku Online, especially if you are now able to trade under Level-3.  It is a great platform to get your message out to the Waiuku community without getting lost in the waffle of the grapevines.

I gave a comprehensive interview with Stuff  this week commenting on the amazing resilience our businesses have shown, but how it is vitally important for our community to continue to supporting local so they can get through these very trying times.  I explained about how community need to understand local businesses contribute in so many ways to the town and they can't do it alone.  I have asked  the editor to reference the Waiuku Online and the Waiuku Town website in the article so please ensure you post on the Facebook page and ensure your information on the website is correct so potential customers can find you.

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter Auckland Council is reviewing their BID Policy and wanting your feedback as members.  We have since sought an extension to the feedback date as we believe our businesses have got so many other issues to deal with at the moment and this is  not the time to be hassling you to try and submit  feedback.  I will update you on their response once the extension is confirmed. See the links and information below.

I want to personally thank those that have gone over and above to help each other out over Covid-19.  Waiuku New World, NZ Gourmet and a number of other local businesses have really stepped up to help those in need over this trying time. I know of businesses that have helped other businesses with storage, parking, taking some of their stock that would currently have to be thrown out etc.  On the other hand sadly, this lock down has seen a whole new demographic of people needing help.  Waiuku Family Support and Tuwhera along with other community groups are doing amazing work to fill this need, so a huge thank you to all involved.

Sometimes it takes times like this to appreciate what an amazing community we have.
Stay safe everyone.

Important Information for Level-3

Please remember to jump onto the Covid-19 website and follow the relevant links to ensure you are following correct protocol trading at Level-3.   I believe there are some changes due to the Delta variant so I urge you, if you haven't already, to just have a quick refresher to check you are conforming.

Also, I have included the new QR code link to refresh your QR posters link.  Please ensure you have your posters clearly visible and easily accessible to your customers.

I still have a number of QR code booklets for you to hand out to your customers if they don't use a smartphone.  Let me know if you would like some.

Government are constantly refreshing the financial support they are offering to businesses to get them through so keep checking to see if you are eligible.

Business Improvement District Programme Review

During 2021, Council are reviewing the BID Policy and supporting documents such as the BID programme agreement, annual accountability agreement, template constitution and board charter.

What is a BID programme?

A BID programme is a local economic development initiative run by a business association in partnership with Council.

A BID is a specified commercial area - town centre, industrial area, or a combination - designated for a targeted rate, with boundaries agreed by the local board and business association.

How BIDs work

We make the targeted rates funds available for the business association to use on activities that promote economic growth in their area. We set accountability requirements through our BID Policy.

Auckland has 48 BIDs representing more than 25,000 businesses, with a combined capital value estimated at $24 billion.

Business associations partner with the local boards to operate BID programmes in their communities.

Council are really keen to hear what you have to say.  Please send your feedback to bids@aklc.govt.nz. Please remember to include your name, organisation and contact details.

Feedback is open until 1 October 2021.

Implementation of the 2021 BID Policy will start 1 July 2022.
