Biden administration to write workplace safety rule tackling heat stress

Politico. Extreme heat kills more Americans than any other climate-related hazard.The White House said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will publish an advanced notice of proposed rule-making, the first step in the process for designing federal regulations, in the Federal Register next month. One of the most popular interventions is planting trees, and creating accessible green spaces and water features to mitigate heat, long term. This session will cover tree canopy assessment, planting and cooling strategies, combined with strengthening community cohesion and resiliency. Three new heatwave hotspots in India put large population at immediate health risk

North-Western, Central, and further to south-central region of India are the new hotspot of intense heatwave events over the past half-century, said a study which found an increase in deadly Indian heat waves in recent years. The study also highlights the need for developing effective heat action plans in the three heatwave hotspot regions with a focus on different vulnerabilities among the inhabitants. Learn more >

Communities, Climate Change, and Health Equity – A New Vision
This two-day virtual workshop will bring together people with lived experience, environmental health experts, resilience practitioners, and climate scientists to outline the disproportionate impact that climate change has on communities experiencing health disparities and environmental injustice. This virtual workshop, the first in a four-part series, is hosted by the Environmental Health Matters Initiative at the National Academies.
