Dear Friends, Colleagues and Partners,

DRM activity resumed at full speed in September, though still virtual, with full presentations to HFCC and SET Brazil at the beginning of the month. The latest DRM developments have been already included in an extensive interview included in the Radio World e-book launched in August and supplemented with another article recently published.

One of the highlights of the month is though the DRM Consortium report on the excellent results of the DRM for FM trial carried out in India in the spring. This underlined the efficiency of the DRM open standard, its many benefits, and the perfect fit with the current developments and infrastructure in India. One of these benefits, the ability to deliver education through DRM, is also the focus of a short DRM video now available on our site.

The first personalised versions of the energy efficiency calculator launched by DRM have been sent and, if you want to know how you can get your free version, please scroll further down.

Some of the latest news and audio recordings are captured on our new Instagram account.

The Q@A section of the newsletter has taken off and your questions are much appreciated. Please keep them coming!

Finally, please do not forget to join us onTwitterYouTube, Instagram and Flickr.  And if you want to join the Consortium please contact projectoffice@drm.org

Brazil Report on SW Digital Broadcasts

The report on the successful trail of shortwave in DRM for domestic use in Brazil was recently published. The trial at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021 was a joint effort between The Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications in Brasilia, the University of Brasilia, EBC – the public broadcaster, the DRM Brazil Platform, and other commercial enterprises and interested parties. The aim was to get extensive coverage in DRM SW especially over the wide and sparsely populated of the Brazilian northern areas, the rich Amazonian region.

The report gives a detailed report on the set up and results of the DRM trial and demo. It concludes that: "...the successful realization of Phase 1 of the project necessarily implies continuity, with the development and dissemination of national low-cost DRM receivers in Phase 2. One cannot lose the "savoir faire" or knowledge acquired so far and thus condemning isolated populations to ignorance due to lack of information. This opens up a new perspective for quality communicationover long distances, integrating the most distant regions of Brazil."
