Public meeting with
the Garda Commissioner

A key aspect of the Policing Authority’s oversight is its engagement with the Garda Commissioner. Each monthly meeting of the Authority includes a meeting with the Garda Commissioner. Each year, at least four of these meetings are held in public and live-streamed. The latest meeting in public took place yesterday, Thursday 23 September 2021.

Recent publications

The Policing Authority Assessment of Policing Performance was published in July, covering the policing performance in the first six months of 2021 and is made primarily against the commitments made by the Garda Síochána in its Policing Plan 2021.

This process of reporting, which takes place twice yearly, is central to the Authority’s statutory oversight work.

This is the 15th in a series of reports on the Authority's assessment of policing performance by the Garda Síochána during the COVID-19 crisis, requested by the Minister for Justice.

As well as ongoing contact with the Garda Síochána, these reports have been informed by engagement by the Authority with a diverse range of stakeholders, including community groups and NGOs.

The Authority will host the Annual meeting of the Chief Executives of Local Authorities and Chairpersons of the Joint Policing Committees on Thursday 30 September.
In October, the Authority will publish a piece of commissioned research, 'The Garda Síochána and Child Mental Health: An investigation of pathways to crisis mental health care'.
The next meeting in public between the Policing Authority and the Garda Commissioner will take place on Tuesday 30 November.
