Welcome to the September MAPS supporters newsletter!

It's World Mental Health Day on Sunday 10th October and to recognise this day we've come up with a Calendar of Wellness tips. We want to encourage all our young people, and their mentors, to think about wellness and we'll be posting a daily tip throughout the whole of October. We'd love to hear from all our mentoring pairs what your favourites were and if you have any good ones that we haven't thought of.

We're in the customer vote for a Tesco Community Grant! It's a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £1,500. Tesco customers will now vote in stores across Sutton (see below for map) during October, November and December to decide how much funding we get, so please support us next time you shop at Tesco!

We'd love to see selfies of you dropping your token in and this will help us spread the word on social media. If you can, please send a photo to maps@vcsutton.org.uk

Expanding our MAPS Advocacy Team

Alongside our mentoring programme, MAPS delivers independent advocacy support for looked after children and children subject to child protection proceedings, within the London Borough of Sutton, in partnership with Advocacy for All. We have been delivering this service since 2015 and we received the Advocacy Quality Performance Mark (QPM) in 2019.
This is a highly complex area of work and during the pandemic, we have been continued to deliver this service virtually. We have worked with children that are accommodated in Wales, Carlisle, Northampton, and Kent to name a few.

We have supported 154 young people since June 2020, and we do this with the support of volunteer advocates speaking to young people and attending conferences.

This month we've recruited and trained a further 5 Volunteer Advocates to support our MAPS Advocacy work.
Our next round of training will be in January 2022. If you would like to register an expression of interest in training as a volunteer MAPS Mentor, please email maps@vcsutton.org.uk

If you know anyone else who might be interested please pass this information on to them.

We are particularly keen to recruit more male volunteers, for balance amongst our mentor numbers, but, as always, we'd be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a mentor.

And finally, a gentle reminder to all our current mentors that we have a new expenses claim form for volunteers which replaces our old system so please do ensure that you are using the new form. Any problems please contact your MAPS co-ordinator.
