Sunday - Harvest Festival
This Sunday we continue the gradual process of reinstating a varied pattern of services. In future, the fourth Sunday of the month will be a Family Service with the new Aylesford Community Youth Choir joining in. This month, we're halfway there ... the 10am service will be a service of the Word with no Communion, and it will be followed at around 11.30am by a short spoken Communion service for those who would like to stay.

But what's really important about this Sunday is that it's Harvest Festival and using some material from the Church of England, we will be exploring generosity - God's generosity and ours.

Generosity

Generosity is at the heart of our faith; God gave his son to the world because he loved it so much. The generosity we show is testament to a lived-out faith and our generous God. We can show our generosity through every day acts of kindness that make a huge difference to people's lives.

Harvest is the perfect time to think about generosity as we marvel at at the wonder and blessing of God's creation. We will celebrate the generosity that has helped us through these difficult times, we will celebrate each other's generosity shown in many ways during the last year, we'll reflect on God's generosity to us and explore how we can grow even more in generosity, as a church.

To celebrate these things we will need some tales of generosity, so if you would like to, please have an act of generosity in mind that you can say a couple of words about (NOT compulsory, as always).

Something to listen to ...

I wonder what you think of the C of E Podcasts that I mentioned last week; there are 8 of them and the suggestion was that you listen to one a day. The first one is a perfect picture of the generosity we hope to show through developing a Community Hub in the Brassey Centre, but the podcasts are packed with other ideas too. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Podcasts are available to listen to and download from all major podcast platforms including Apple PodcastGoogle Podcasts and Spotify, but they can be accessed online here too.

Harvest Gifts

If you would like to, please bring (non-perishable) items for the food bank to the service. The list of particular current needs is here.

And/Or ... this year, the PCC have agreed that we will collect for the Diocese of Rochester's Poverty and Hope 2021 Appeal. This will support farmers struggling with climate change in Malawi, children recovering from trauma and abuse in Sri Lanka and people living with HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe - issues, areas and people very close to the hearts of many in the Aylesford and Eccles church family. So any money collected over the Harvest weekend - in cash, online, via mobile giving, handed to Pam etc etc will go to this appeal. Here is a leaflet explaining more about the appeal.

Here is the order of service. You only need to print/access it if you are joining by Zoom; it will be supplied in church.

Known & Loved
For a while now, the churches that make up Churches Together in Malling (which includes us) have been working on a programme of events to bless the wider community during one week in May 2022. Like so many other things it's lost a bit of momentum because of the pandemic. However, everyone's working to get it back on track now

To help with this, and introduce what's happening more widely, all the members of all the congregations are being invited to a special event, to be held on Sunday October 3rd, from 4.30pm.

Revd Dave Baxter (Minister, West Malling Baptist Church), who is chair of CTiM, writes:
Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well,

I just wanted to take this time to invite you to a special event for 'Known & Loved' that is coming up in early October.

On Sunday 3rd October we are holding a Prayer and Praise event for 'Known & Loved' along with a Buffet Tea. The tea is from 4:30pm and then the Prayer and Praise starts at 5:30pm.

The event is being held at West Malling Baptist Church.

We would love you to join with us - it has been so long since we have been able to gather as Churches across CTiM 'in person' and so to see folk will be really special.

Alongside the joy of fellowship, it will be also really special to gather together at this stage of the 'Known & Loved' journey to re-connect with the vision for this exciting mission and to pray into it.

We have had some exciting developments over the summer in terms of our planning, which we look forward to sharing with you.

The aim of 'Known & Loved' is to share and demonstrate to people in our communities that they are known and loved by God. We feel that following the past 18 months, our neighbourhoods need this message and connection of hope more than ever.

We are excited that we have this opportunity through 'Known & Loved' to share this hope together in tangible ways.

It would be lovely to see you on Sunday 3rd.

Many thanks,
God bless,
Dave
Aline, Pam and I (Ruth) will be going and it would be great to have some company. Please come and help us shape up our part in working with the other churches to show everyone around us that they are 'Known & Loved' by God ... and the people of their churches.

Dave would like to know how many to cater for, so please let Aline or me know if you are coming.
