Hello Timebank Members

We hope you have had a wonderful summer and are ready to wrap up as it appears Autumn is on it's way!
Here at Timebank we are aiming to make sure all exchange requests are actioned. After all, supporting each other and bringing our communities together is what we do best so please be sure to take a good look at the opportunities to exchange section to see if there is anything you are able to help with.

We would like to offer our love and support to those involved in, and affected by, the recent tragedy in Keyham.
Our thoughts are with you all.
Please see the below article from Plymouth Together, an offer of support for all those who need it.

A special website has been launched to support the people affected by the tragic events in Keyham.

The Plymouth Together site includes the latest information on where local people can access care and wellbeing support in the city and which organisations can provide a listening ear and reassurance.

In addition, the website includes information regarding the new Plymouth Together Fund – providing a secure and safe way for fundraising activity to take place.

The Wolseley Trust will be supporting communities in Keyham by overseeing the Plymouth Together Fund. They will be helping to coordinate all the funds that have been raised so far across the city. They will work with the local community to then distribute the funding to the families of the victims and to other local projects, groups and activities that are supporting the recovery of the area.

If you are interested in fundraising in the future, email PlymouthTogether@plymouth.gov.uk.

If you would like to donate, click the link below.

If you've had contact with someone who's tested positive ENGLAND

If you’re fully vaccinated or under 18 you no longer need to self-isolate after close contact with someone who has COVID-19. If you have symptoms you should still isolate and take a PCR test. Find out when to self-isolate and what to do on the NHS website.

Vaccinations for young people ENGLAND

16 and 17 year olds can now get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. They’ll be contacted and invited by the NHS but cannot book online.

Timebank South West continues to support the government guidelines as well as the safety and comfort of our members. With this in mind, where we are aware that masks are no longer mandatory indoors, we support and encourage all members who are concerned to continue to wear their masks inside.
We are also doing our best to ensure all indoor spaces are aired and ventilated, sanitiser is readily available as well as hand washing facilities and a 1m distance is advised between members.
 Important Update

We are sad to say that despite everyone’s best efforts we have had to make the difficult decision to close our National Lottery funded project ‘Plan It, Cook It, Share It’.

Covid-19 lockdowns prevented us from delivering the project and the lottery set us a finishing date of October 2021. Additionally, our Project Worker recently moved on to new adventures leaving little time to get things started again.

Whilst this news is disappointing for all, we will be looking to set up similar projects in the very near future.

We would like to thank members who took part in the project or those who supported us including Livewest, Four Greens Community Trust and the National Lottery.

Timebank South West will continue as normal, and we look forward to more socials and skill exchanges in the weeks and months ahead.

New opportunities for Timebanking with the over 65's
Timebank is very pleased to announce that we will be expanding our areas very soon!

Timebank Director, Liza, has recently had the good news through from Plymouth City Council Strategic Commissioning Manager, Rachel Silcock.
We are
one of three elements being funded to provide extra services for wellbeing to people over the age of 65. The other two organisations are Improving Lives who are doing Peer Support, and Livewell who are recruiting an Older Person's Social Prescriber Worker. We will provide the same support and engagement as we currently do, just with a focus on Older Persons and their needs.
Our main referrals for the project will come through our local GP's and also from Social Prescribers as well as other agencies or organisations and self-referral.
Anyone 65+ is welcome to join us.
We will be asked to set up 3 new Timebanks and they are likely to be in Southway, Plymstock and Plympton. We hope you are as excited as we are to welcome more Timebank members across the city.
Opportunities to exchange
Do you remember the skills you said you would like to share when you became a Timebank member? Whether you are tech savvy, proficient with plants or have a natural dexterity for DIY - wanting to share your knowledge is what brought us, and what will keep us moving forward, together.
Timebank South West is proud to have over 100 members who are all here to share their skills and abilities with other members across the city creating a friendly, social and cost-free way of getting involved in your community and lending a hand to help others by doing something you enjoy!
If you can help out with any of thee exchange requests please email kimberley@timebanksw.org
Mayflower 400 Meal
Timebank South West - 10 Year Anniversary
Last year was the 400th year anniversary of the Mayflower ship sailing to America and lots of activities were planned by various community groups and organisations, much of which had to be put on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
At Timebank South West we were planning to acknowledge the sailing from Plymouth by hosting a special feast to celebrate timebanking and thank active timebankers.
As covid restrictions are being eased we have an opportunity to put the celebration back on the map! Recipes from 1620 have been sourced and we are ready to get started. We are planning to host the feast at the end of September and if you want to get involved in helping please let us know by contacting Kimberley at our office
Timebank is going to be celebrating reaching the grand old age of 10 this year!
10 years of bringing people together.
10 years of sharing knowledge
10 years of learning new skills
10 years of earning & spending hours

We are planning an exciting event to celebrate in style so watch this space for your special invitation to join us.

We would love to hear about your time with Timebank:
How long have you been a member?

What skills do you share?
How would you like to celebrate our 10th birthday?
Would you like to get involved with the planning and execution of the big event?
Let us know!

Trauma Teds for D&C Fire Service
We have recently been in touch with Sean Avery, a Fire Fighter with Devon & Cornwall Fire Service in Crownhill. Sean told Outreach worker Zoe all about 'Trauma Teds' - hand knitted teddy's kept on board the fire trucks for children who have been involved in a fire rescue.
The Trauma Teds used to be kept on board all trucks, but sadly the teddies stopped coming in and so the incentive went dormant around 15 years ago.
Sean is keen to bring the idea out of retirement and has put a call-out to all keen knitters and crocheters to ask for teddies to be made in readiness for getting them back on board.
"We would love to have enough to be able to offer some to all other rescue services too".  Says Sean of Blue Watch - 49 Crownhill.

We think the idea is wonderful. Having gone through a traumatic experience, this would be a lovely gesture of love and support to a young person.

We have used a lovely free pattern we found on
Ravelry.com created by Jem Weston to make the bears and their jumpers.
Please get in touch via Facebook or email Zoe to find out how you can get involved.
Holiday Snaps Wanted!
Whether you have been away on your holidays or simply at home for a stay-cation, we would love to see what you have been up to over the last six weeks. Please send us your holiday snaps and we will happily share them (with your consent) in our newsletter and on our social media platforms.
Above are pictures taken by outreach worker, Zoe, who went to Wells, Glastonbury and Weston super-Mare

The Great Timebank Pen Pal Exchange
We are so pleased to be bringing people together to share their stories through the medium of writing and are still looking to match people up with other members across the country. Get in touch if you would like to become a pen pal. If you already have a pen pal, why not send them a postcard from Plymouth? It would be a fun way to keep in touch.
Knitting Pattern Library
We have recently had a wonderful range of knitting patterns donated to us and so we thought we could set up a knitting pattern lending library. If you are a knatty knitter and like to try something different or if you are new to knitting and would like to start on something small, there is something here for you. With stitch libraries and handy hints this great resource is here for you. If you would like to borrow a pattern or enquire about a specific pattern please get in touch with Zoe: zoe@timebanksw.org
What are your recent experiences of using and accessing local GP services?

Healthwatch Plymouth are hoping to hear experiences from people all across the city so that local health services can gain an understanding of public experiences.

Our team would like to find out:

  • Have you had trouble getting an appointment, or issues getting in touch with a GP?
  • Were you able to see your GP in person – if so, how long did you have to wait?
  • When you got to see a GP were they able to help?

We want to hear experiences from the public so services can understand what is or isn't working, so please forward this call for feedback on to any individual or group who may have a story to share.

Anyone can share feedback by:

Leaving feedback about GP services on our website: healthwatchplymouth.co.uk

Calling our contact centre team FREE on 0800 520 0640

LET’S TALK ABOUT FOOD IN WHITLEIGH ……

what do you think and what’s happening around shopping, availability of fresh food, food support, food waste, free school meals, food packaging, cooking skills…

FoodSEqual is a 5-year project looking at food and the food system in Plymouth and how we could improve it for everyone.

WHAT is it? FoodSEqual is listening and talking to people so that we can reimagine the food system locally and for Plymouth.
WHAT will it do? Plymouth communities will lead the way in decision making to improve local access to healthy and sustainable food.

WHO can be involved?

We’re setting up an active “Community Food Researcher Team” in Plymouth.
If you’re curious about food and want to find out more about the project what you might be doing  and how to get involved, then get in touch!

We would also love to talk to local food businesses or providers.

You can contact Clare Pettinger and the team foodsequal@plymouth.ac.uk or leave a voice message on 01752 588822 and we’ll get back to you.
