Dundee Healthy Minds Network alongside colleagues at PlusPerth and Angus Voice this week shared a new survey report, LISTEN – Experiences of NHS Tayside Mental Health Services. Four hundred and three people who use mental health services responded to the survey.

CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION EVENTS
Child Exploitation Briefing
24th September 10am – 12 noon
Short information session on sexual and criminal exploitation of children and young people. The aim of the briefing is to increase awareness and understanding of child exploitation, considering children up to the age of 18. Attendees will be given information about current trends and examples of some of the abuse young people are experiencing. The aim is that attendees will feel more able to identify and respond to concerns around exploitation.
Use of Technology in the Sexual Abuse of Children and Young People
24th September 2pm- 4pm
Technology is an integral part of day to day life. This briefing hopes to increase attendees understanding of how young people are using technology, and how people use technology in the abuse of children. Attendees will get information on current trends, both local and national, and consider some steps that can look to increase safety for children.

CARES Conference 2021: Community action to net zero | Wednesday 29 September
Climate change is not a distant far away problem, we’re already seeing the impact here in Scotland. That’s why we need everyone – businesses, communities, industry and individuals – to join us in taking action to achieve Scotland’s Net Zero Targets.

Families Outside: New Accredited Training Modules
This training is aimed at all professionals whose work brings them into contact with families who have a family member in prison.
There are three separate accredited modules and participants should choose which ones are relevant to their line of work.
Module 1 - Understanding the issues for families affected by imprisonment
This module will look specifically at what the issues could be for a family and how they are affected at different stages of the criminal justice system.
Module 2 - Supporting children and young people who have a family member in prison
Representing the views of children and young people this module will go into detail the varying needs of this group and what support and policies should be in place to protect them.
Module 3 - Prison and prison visiting
This module highlights the importance of maintaining contact with a family member in prison and what support can be accessed, to ensure this is a positive experience for everyone involved
These accredited modules are charged at £55 per individual, per module. Each module lasts 3 hours.

NESS Sensory Awareness Training
NESS is pleased to announce the launch of our new e-learning Sensory Awareness Training. Having trialled it for a few weeks, we are now ready to share it further.
Designed to replicate as much of our one day, face-to-face training as possible, our Sensory Awareness Training (or sight loss and hearing loss awareness training), raises awareness of the practical and emotional impact of sight loss and/or hearing loss, while introducing some of the ways that someone with a sight and/or hearing loss might maintain their independence. It provides a comprehensive overview of sight loss and hearing loss, including Deafness and deafblindness, giving you the knowledge and the confidence to be supportive and inclusive of people with a sensory impairment. The Scottish Government is recruiting for a new Chair for the Accounts Commission. The new Chair will bring a passion for public service and improving how councils and other public bodies address the challenges facing Scotland, to benefit people’s lives and the communities in which they live.
The Accounts Commission is the public body which oversees the performance and spending within Scotland’s 32 councils, 30 Integration Joint Boards and other local government joint boards. The Commission plays a significant role in Scottish public life, helping ensure that public money is spent properly, efficiently and effectively. It is responsible for the audit of all local authorities in Scotland, operating impartially and independently from the Scottish Government.

Sex, Drugs and Scotland's Health - Digital conference: Exhibitors & Sponsorship
HIV Scotland, IRESH and partners are delighted to announce that our Sex, Drugs and Scotland's Health Virtual Conference on 19-21 October 2021. Originally planned to take place in Dundee, our conference will take place online, providing our attendees with a virtual slice of the city!
As the first abstract led conference in Scotland following COVID-19, the event presents a valuable opportunity to highlight new and emerging issues and research, support workforce development and connect communities and those working within the SHBBV field in Scotland, the UK and internationally. At its heart will be discussion and debate around the impact of COVID-19 on sexual health, blood-borne viruses and sexual wellbeing in Scotland, bringing together the voices of community members, creatives, academics, researchers, health care professionals and third sector practitioners.
Community groups and (third sector) organisations are therefore key to the success of the conference and its themes.
Sex, Drugs & Scotland’s Health will attract a diverse range of stakeholders from across the sexual health and blood-borne virus sector. Sponsorship supports the organising of the conference and ensures that it can remain free to attend for everyone – increasing access to learning, development and information for community members. We welcome corporate and individual sponsors but this is not a requirement and we would be happy to discuss a modest contribution or waiving the fee if that made things easier to take part. This is not a money making venture, but simply a way for us to help with costs for a conference that has largely been underwritten by HIV Scotland and Public Health Scotland. While third sector organisations are really struggling financially, we are asking less of them or in many cases, waiving the fee.
The conference steering group recognises that digital exhibition space is untested and people are doubtful about it. However, we are building a programme that allows for time and space outside the personation to explore the conference ‘site’ and to engage with other attendees, including those within the exhibition stands, that have a discussion facility (you can have discussions with people at virtual tables). We are also working on activities to for participants to take part in during the conference that would increase visiting and engaging with exhibition stalls – including a “virtual” game of “find the STI”.

Involvement in the Mental Health and Substance Use Pathfinder Project – Phase 1
What we are doing
Over the next few weeks we will be listening to how people who provide support and/or services to people who have mental health and drug/alcohol support needs. This may include NHS, Primary care, voluntary services, community services, or other types of community supports in Dundee.
NHS Tayside and Dundee City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), together with Healthcare Improvement Scotland and local third sector organisations will then work with people who deliver these services and community supports, and the people who use them to design new pathways that improve the outcomes, access and experience for people.
What we are asking of you / how you can get involved
We would like to find out more about your experiences of delivering these services. This includes-
· How you experience the services you are involved in delivering
· the ways in which the outcomes for people are supported or impacted by how services are structured
· the connections they have with other services or supports, and
· any gaps or challenges you experience in being able to access other services or in connecting people with the right support for them.
If you choose to take part, one or two members of the Healthcare Improvement Scotland team will have a conversation with you. The conversation will take no longer than 50 minutes and will be recorded either by note taking or by audio recording.
You can have the conversation by online video chat or by telephone call.
Who can take part
We would like to speak with anyone who has current experience of delivering services or support to people who have mental health and alcohol/drug support needs in Dundee.
How what you tell us will be used
We will use the information you give us to anonymously inform the work of NHS Tayside and Dundee City HSCP who are working to develop a new integrated support pathway (or multiple pathways) for people that will improve the experience for people who need both mental health and alcohol or drug support services.
What will happen to the information you share with us
The information you provide will be used to develop a range of materials that will help illustrate both how people use and journey through services and supports currently and the experience of people who deliver the services. We will use this to identify where there are opportunities to make improvements to the experience of these.
Anything you tell us will be anonymised unless you give us permission to use your personal details. We may use your anonymised comments in full or in part at workshops to help in the development of new ways of delivering these services. We may also use your comments in reports or documents about the project and as part of future education.
How the information will be stored and for how long
We will store any personal information you provide in a secure electronic location and hold it for a maximum of 12 months. Following that it will be deleted.
Choosing not to take part
This opportunity is entirely voluntary, so you do not have to take part and you do not have to give us a reason why if you would prefer not to.

Regional Transport Strategy Consultation
Tactran, the regional transport partnership covering the Angus, Dundee, Perth & Kinross and Stirling Council areas, has started work on a new Regional Transport Strategy (RTS) and would welcome your views to inform its development. The RTS provides a complementary role to the Council’s Local Transport Strategy, helping identify and bring forward regionally significant transport developments, for example, those transport issues that apply across local authority boundaries.
The process will be ongoing for over a year, with three principal consultation phases planned (i.e. issues, options, strategy). The first stage of this work is to seek views on the problems, opportunities, issues and constraints that should be considered, and we would be grateful if you could assist by answering the questions posed at the end of the Main Issues Consultation Report.
Input will be captured from stakeholders throughout the whole process, so if your group or organisation is willing to provide input collectively, please advise by contacting info@dvva.scot, and we can discuss how and when we can best help capture your input during the process

The Face of Experience 2021
As part of Dundee's Year of the Older Person, artists are welcomed to participate in “THE FACE OF EXPERIENCE 2021, Pensioner Portrait Competition, a partnership event between the Pensioners Forum, V&A Dundee, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action.
This painting challenge is open to people of all ages and skill, and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to take part, from enthusiastic amateurs to more experienced artists. All participants are asked to complete an entry form and submit a sample of their work by 20 September. There will be a judging panel that will shortlist applicants and select up to 12 artists, who will have the opportunity to join the painting challenge on Tuesday 28 September at the V&A Dundee. Social enterprise awarded Scottish Government funding to provide subsidised places on social entrepreneurship training programme
The Circle, a multi-award-winning social enterprise, has received Scottish Government funding to provide 25 subsidised places, aimed at giving business and social entrepreneurship training to young people under-30, people in rural communities, and those working in the environmental space.
The training, given by The Circle Academy, is a 12-week online programme for individuals, start-ups and organisations, who want their business to have a social impact, while operating in a commercially sustainable way.
The Circle Academy is an accredited programme focused on developing skills in business planning, governance, finance, marketing, funding and pitching - with social impact.
Participants will graduate with a business plan and a marketing strategy. They will also have the chance to receive an SCQF level 7 qualification in social entrepreneurship, and the opportunity to pitch for investment for their business.
The groups targeted by the funding, are in line with key areas identified in Scotland’s Social Enterprise Action Plan.
The Circle’s Academy Manager, Jenny McCarthy said:
“We’re delighted to be able to offer these free spaces thanks to the support of The Scottish Government. This is a great opportunity for us to help people build organisations that can make a long-lasting impact and to support with the recovery and rebuilding of the third sector.”

Helm Employability Fund
Are you aged 16-24? Are you looking for support into further education or employment?
Helm currently have spaces available on their Employability Fund programmes and would love to help. Our staff will get to know you, build a relationship, support you to gain SQA qualifications and soft skills such as confidence and communication, and support you in moving to a positive destination. We have partnerships with approximately 50 local Dundee employers and will work together to provide placement opportunities to ensure you have the relevant experience and skills for progressing into further education, an apprenticeship or employment.

Trail Therapy Project
Are you a third sector organisation supporting people recovering from a period of mental ill health or reduced wellbeing and are looking for a nature-based, complementary therapy that could really benefit those within your care?
We would like to draw your attention to an innovative and exciting new project utilising mountain biking as a tool to help individuals in their recovery, Trail Therapy. Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and Scottish Cycling, with support from Nature Scot through their Natural Health Service, Green Health Partnership have recently launched this programme with a dedicated Trail Therapy Mountain Bike Leader in post and a cohort of volunteers waiting in the wings to support delivery. They are now in the position to roll out their trail Therapy Project ( https://www.dmbins.com/developing/news/new-mtb-mental-health-%E2%80%98trail-therapy%E2%80%99-project-%E2%80%93-ready-to-ride ) to include Trail Prescription and are looking for clients that would benefit from this type of support.
This project follows on from an extremely successful pilot project in the Tweed Valley in 2018. The team continued to press forward to ensure that the benefits of this type of complementary intervention can be adopted to help more people across Scotland and are delighted to be currently focussing on Dundee. No MTB skills are necessary and all equipment including bikes are provided to the clients involved.

What is independent advocacy?
Independent advocacy is about speaking up for an individual or group. It is a way to help young people have a stronger voice and as much control as possible over their own lives. We can help them speak to their social worker, Children’s Panel members, carers, or teachers.
Who do we work with in Dundee?
We work alongside children and young people who are:
Looked after away from home, Looked after at home, In kinship care, In foster care or a Care leaver up to the age of 26.

Dundee Pride Befriending Service 'Reach Out'
Dundee Pride is proud to announce that it’s befriending service, for the local LGBTQ+ community, REACH OUT has been extended, due to funding from Dundee City Council’s Common Good Fund. REACH OUT seeks to reduce isolation, disconnectedness, and loneliness. During this unprecedented time, through the recruitment of a trained and dedicated volunteer team, we will bring together a community aiming to build resilience, connections, and a strengthened support network. REACH OUT is not a counselling service but a hosted community where participants can openly share thoughts and feelings in a safe and protected environment. We can refer them on to other agencies if they need professional support, such as help with food poverty or help with emotional problems.
Dundee Pride have a mission is to take a positive stance against discrimination and violence toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus (LGBTQ+) community and to progress LGBTQ+ equality, awareness and inclusion within Dundee and the region. Although we have run successful Pride events, we are more than this and as such have created Reach Out. The service is designed to help LGBTQ+ individuals who are feeling isolated and alone and are in need of a friendly ear to speak to.

Recognising Young Volunteers
Young Volunteers aged 12 – 25 can get certificates signed by Scottish Government Ministers in recognition of their volunteering through the Saltire Awards. The certificates help young people demonstrate their achievements when applying for employment, further education or training.
With the Saltire Awards, young volunteers earn certificates when they undertake a Challenge Award or reach 10 hours, 25, 50, 100, 200 or 500 hours of volunteering.
As social restrictions ease, we expect more youth volunteering to take place. So, don’t miss out on the chance to get certificates: saltireawards.scot

Launch of the Year of Stories 2022 Community Stories Fund
- £300,000 fund, split over 2 rounds.
- Applicants must be an organisation or group working with communities, who are not for profit and are formally constituted with a bank account.
- Delivered as a partnership between VisitScotland and Museums Galleries Scotland with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Applications are through the Museums Galleries Scotland website, and applicants must first register online to create an account before making an application.
Round 1 deadline is 5pm, 1st October. Round 2 funding deadline is 18 March 2022. Awards of between £500 and £5,000 are available.

Let’s do net zero community buildings: CARES funding available
The latest round of funding from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewables Energy Scheme (CARES) is now open.
Grant funding, advice and support is available to community organisations, charitable organisations and faith groups that want to decarbonise their community buildings by installing low carbon or renewable energy systems, such as heat pumps or solar panels.
Funding is available for many types of community buildings, including:
- community cafes
- community hubs
- faith buildings
- public halls
- community halls and centres.
Through a combination of grants and loans, CARES can fund up to 100% of the eligible project costs. Funding operates on a first come basis, and early applications are encouraged.
Expressions of interest should be submitted in the first instance. The funding call will close to new applications on Thursday 30 September 2021, or earlier should the funding call budget be reached.

Local Energy Scotland and CARES
Local Energy Scotland is a consortium made up of Energy Saving Trust, Changeworks, The Energy Agency, SCARF and The Wise Group. We administer and manage the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) with support for delivery from Ricardo Energy & Environment and QMPF.
We help communities and rural businesses with:
- free advice and support to develop renewable energy schemes, or to secure and manage income from renewables
- advice on funding streams
- support to access CARES funding
- support to access the Energy Investment Fund (post-consent loans).

Volunteering Support Fund 2021-2024
The Scottish Government’s Volunteering Support Fund is now open for applications. The £3.3 million Fund will be delivered on its behalf by Impact Funding Partners over the next 3 years. Organisations can apply for up to £30,000 to March 2024.
The fund is geared towards organisations in Scotland with an annual income of under £250,000. It will enable Scotland’s small to medium sized third sector organisations to recruit additional volunteers who will contribute towards delivering a new volunteering project, or extending/expanding an existing one, and improve how volunteers are supported in their role.
The fund will support organisations to deliver on four key outcomes:
- Increase diversity in the third sector’s volunteer pool, to particularly include people who experience disadvantage or would traditionally experience barriers to volunteering
- Improve governance, leadership and financial knowledge of organisations through the recruitment of skilled volunteers to enhance the third sector's capacity
- Improve organisational capacity to provide opportunities for skills and personal development through volunteering
- Enhance services delivered by organisations to better meet the needs of the communities they serve

Common Good Fund
Applications remain open for this year's Common Good Fund. This funding is available for one-off awards that support 'the common good'. Further information and guidance can be found on the application form https://bit.ly/3aLEAlg.
All applications received by Monday the 16th of August are being assessed and decisions will be made on them, alongside some deferred applications, in early-mid September. The next deadline for applications is the 15th of November, with decisions following in December, making it a good time to plan ahead for activities at the start of 2022.

Charities and good causes in Scotland will be able to apply for funding of up to £20,000 in the new year from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
People’s Postcode Trust, which previously supported good causes around Britain, will now focus solely on helping organisations in Scotland and funding is available to cover core costs, as well as project-based initiatives. As a commitment to supporting smaller organisations, an income cap has been introduced of £1 million. Priority will be given to groups with an income of less than £500,000.
Applications will open on or around the 1st of each month from 1st February 2021 to 1st October 2021 and will close each month once the maximum number of bids are received. If an organisation misses a funding round, they’ll be encouraged to apply the following month.

Interested charities can contact us for more information and to request a registration form. Your completed registration form and payment of fee due must be received prior to the induction date.
The Good Governance Award is the quality standard for Scottish charities.
The Award provides a clear, structured approach to assessing and improving a charity’s policies and procedures. Once completed, it provides proof that an organisation is actively engaging in excellent governance through our Award Certification.
The Introduction to Good Governance Programme has been developed to support small charities strengthen their core governance, and is a great precursor to the full Good Governance Award.
