COVID-19 Update

Booster jabs recommended for over 50s

Booster jabs for over 50s and younger adults with health conditions are being recommended by government vaccine advisers. Around 30 million people in the UK, including frontline health and care workers, will be offered a booster. The Pfizer jab is recommended, regardless of which vaccine people had previously, and it should be given at least six months after the second dose.

Your Covid recovery

The NHS has created a website - www.yourcovidrecovery.nhs.uk - specifically to support people if they do get COVID-19. It explains:
  • How to support yourself or someone you know
  • The effects that COVID-19 can have on physical and mental health
  • How best to recover from the infection
  • What is long COVID and how to recognise the signs of this?
They have also created an app to download to help support someone through their recovery.

LA7 reaction – Winter plan and 12-15 year-olds' vaccinations

"With the return of colder weather on the horizon, and children and young people going back to schools, colleges, and universities, it is essential that clear and robust plans are put in place to protect us from any significant increase in Covid-19 cases and the burden that would place on the NHS.

“While cases have remained relatively high, and consistent daily death figures have served as a sobering reminder that the virus has never gone away despite restrictions being eased in July, we always knew that the approach to winter would be a significant test." Read the full statement here.

Collaboration during the pandemic

Find out more about VODA's collaboration with Dreamshine during the Covid-19 pandemic in this article from Mobilising UK Voluntary Action. One of the most consistent themes that has emerged over the course of their research is the importance of collaboration and partnership working throughout the pandemic. In some cases new partnerships have emerged and in other cases existing relationships have been strengthened, with organisations working together to play to their strengths and support their communities. This article explores how VODA supported Dreamshine in their efforts to quickly set up a telephone befriending service at the start of the pandemic and how it has led to an ongoing relationship which sees us worklyg with Dreamshine to provide Happy to Chat sessions at their hub in Wallsend.
