COVID-19 - Autumn and Winter Plan

On Tuesday 14 September, The Prime Minister announced the government’s plan to manage COVID-19 throughout autumn and winter

See the publication:

Read our COVID-19 autumn and winter planCurrent data continues to show that the link between cases, hospitalisations and deaths has weakened significantly.

The government aims to sustain this progress throughout the autumn and winter by:
  • building defences through pharmaceutical interventions
  • Test and Trace - identify and isolate positive cases to limit transmission
  • supporting the NHS and social care
  • advising people on how to protect themselves and others
  • pursuing an international approach

The Prime Minister also outlined a Plan B as a last resort - this would include measures such as:

  • introducing mandatory, vaccine-only COVID-19 status certification in certain, riskier settings
  • legally mandating face coverings in certain settings, such as public transport and shops.

Reskilling the Recovery - Grants to recruit

Reskilling the RecoveryThe COVID-19 crisis has had an unprecedented impact, with SMEs amongst the hardest hit. Many firms have been forced to change the way that they operate and even restructure.

We are pleased to be supporting a new initiative, led by the London Progression Collaboration (LPC), to support SME recovery via a dedicated apprenticeship fund.

The Reskilling the Recovery campaign is helping large employers to pledge their unspent apprenticeship levy funds to enable small businesses to offer apprenticeship opportunities, recognising that the right people with the right skills are vital to business success. The apprenticeship opportunities created will help small businesses access training, as well as helping Londoners into work and to progress in work.

The campaign has already secured pledges of over £8M of unspent apprenticeship levy funds, which are immediately available to SMEs, and will cover the full cost of apprenticeship training for new and existing staff in their businesses.

As well as the funding, the London Progression Collaboration also offer businesses support and advice around how to get started with apprenticeships and how to make the most of the opportunities that they present. Their work is funded by the Mayor of London and J.P.Morgan so there is no cost to you.

If you would like to have a conversation with LPC about whether an apprenticeship would be right for your business and how to access the funding and support, please email Rob Singh at R.Singh@ippr.org

Joshua v Usyk: event day measures in force

Anthony JoshuaThe Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host one of the biggest events in the British sporting calendar on Saturday 25 September, as Anthony Joshua defends his World Heavyweight Boxing titles against Oleksandr Usyk.

As with matchdays at the stadium, event day measures will be in force, including road closures, controlled parking zones (CPZs) and parking suspensions.

The High Road will be closed between Lansdowne Road/Lordship Lane and White Hart Lane from 5pm on Saturday. The event begins at 5pm with an undercard of bouts, and it is expected that there will be a gradual walk-up from spectators ahead of the main event, scheduled to begin at 10pm.

Tottenham Hotspur has worked closely with its transport partners to ensure spectators are able to safely leave the area following the event, including later running trains from all local stations, the event day shuttle bus, black taxi ranks and enhanced regional coach service. Temporary event day public toilets will also be located throughout the local area.

The latest event finish time will be 11pm, with the latest lifting of the High Road closure being midnight.

Tottenham Corner Pin - new business spotlight

The historic Corner Pin pub, located at 732 High Road Tottenham, has re-opened in partnership between Tottenham Hotspur and Beavertown Brewery - the largest independent craft brewer in London.

Corner PinThe Corner Pin was a popular venue for Spurs fans on matchdays until its closure in 2010 – and now becomes Beavertown Brewery's first pub.

An iconic site on the corner of Park Lane, the Corner Pin is the latest historic building restored to its former glory by the Club since the new stadium opened, following in the footsteps of Percy House and Warmington House.

Alex Thorpe, Senior Business Development Manager, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We are excited to restore the Corner Pin to its former use – a vibrant and modern pub that is sure to be popular among our fans, our local community and visitors to the area.

“As a business rooted in this community, Beavertown Brewery shares our vision for Tottenham and we are delighted to be working with them on this project that aims to bring a further boost to the local economy.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s partnership with Beavertown Brewery is another example of how the Club is embracing its community within its wider stadium regeneration scheme, supporting local businesses that employ local people.

The Club is also committed to investing in and restoring the Northumberland Terrace, the finest series of Georgian properties within the Tottenham Conservation Area dating from as early as 18th Century.

Northumberland Terrace will soon be transformed into PaxtoN17 – a vibrant new neighbourhood in the heart of Tottenham, celebrating the arts, culture, fashion and creativity.
