Change to CAM Hours
CAM began seeing clients in-person again on August 2nd at Southwest Solutions' Housing Resource Center (HRC) and Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV), while also continuing to staff the CAM Phone Line. As CAM has transitioned from operating solely a phone line to operating in a hybrid model with both in-person and phone line access, we have had to make some staffing adjustments to accommodate. At the end of the month, CAM will be eliminating Saturday hours in order to add capacity Monday-Friday, when demand is highest.

New Hours of Operation Effective Monday, September 27, 2021:
  • CAM Phone Line: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm; Sat-Sun Closed
  • HRC in-person: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm; Sat-Sun Closed
  • HCHV in-person: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm; Sat-Sun Closed
Clients who do not have a safe space to stay and are in need of shelter on the weekend, may call the CAM Phone Line for information on where they can go directly for shelter.

You can read more about the data and rationale used by CAM Governance in making this decision by clicking here.

If you have any questions feel free to contact CAM at camdetroit@swsol.org.

CAM Policies & Procedures Revised

The CAM Governance Committee (CGC) completed its annual review of the CAM Policies and Procedure (P&P) this month to ensure they are accurate and compliant with any applicable regulation or requirement.

You can find the updated P&P on the CAM website here: http://www.camdetroit.org/reports-and-documents/

Update on HP HCV Waitlist

There have been a significant number of Homeless Preference Housing Choice Vouchers (HP HCVs) available through MSHDA in 2020 and 2021. Typically, only households prioritized in Acuity Groups 2 & 3 by CAM are added to the HP HCV waitlist. However, CAM staff have continued to monitor the rate at which people are being added to the HCV waitlist vs. the rate at which people are pulled and recently decided, in consultation with the CAM Governance Committee, to begin adding households to the HP HCV waitlist who score in the Acuity Group 4 range. This is great news for our CoC as more households than ever are getting access to this invaluable resource.

As of September 1, 2021, there were approximately 80 households in shelter who scored in the Acuity Group 4 range and about 10 households per week who enter shelter and score in this range.

Calls for Letters of Interest!

Detroit emergency shelter and Rapid Re-Housing programs are invited to participate in the planning and implementation of a 100-day pilot designed to better connect Detroiters experiencing homelessness with employment and training. A quick overview is below and full details are attached.

Detroit at Work (Detroit’s workforce system) and the Detroit homelessness response system are partnering to improve employment and income outcomes for people served in emergency shelters and Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) programs through a 100-day pilot. Detroit at Work, powered by the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation, is Detroit’s workforce system that connects people with the training, resources, and employment opportunities needed to meet their employment goals. The goals of the pilot are to increase employment and/or income for people served in shelter and RRH programs, understand more about the cross-population served, and use lessons learned to create the infrastructure for broader workforce and homeless system collaboration. We also want to build meaningful and collaborative relationships between the workforce and homeless systems, which will lead to better employment and housing outcomes for our shared customers. Workforce and homeless providers alike will benefit from streamlining services, decreasing duplication of efforts, and figuring out how to work together towards shared goals.

We are looking for up to 3 emergency shelters providers and up to 3 RRH providers to: 1) participate in designing and planning the pilot; 2) be a pilot implementation site. We encourage providers to apply with their interest to help us understand more about their capacity to participate and types of support(s) needed to fully engage. Planning would occur in November and December, the 100-day implementation would take place January through March, and the evaluation of the pilot in would occur in April.

Submit your responses via this form (https://forms.office.com/r/UEkGDthU5U) by 11:59pm on Monday, September 27. A presentation about this pilot will be made at shelter and RRH workgroup September meetings to share more information and take questions. Any questions or comments can also be sent to lurteagafuentes@detempsol.org
