Thirteen million people from the US have reported near-death experiences — that is 1 in every 25 Americans.  People who flatlined both in their heart and their brain for extended periods of time, where it was physically impossible for them to have any conscious experience at all, and yet they report that they did.  And their reports have many common threads that they share.  Not all have the exact same experience, but the similarities are hard to ignore.  So, as Bible-believing Christians, what do we make of this?

Two things come to mind:  First, no one’s experience trumps the Word of God — it either aligns with God’s word, or it is to be ignored.  God is not giving new revelation (Revelation 22:18-19).  Second, we must ask the question, do all of these near-death experiences consist of having time in heaven?  Have any gone the other way?

Join us this Sunday as we explore that question and see what Scripture teaches about “the other place!"

 A NOTE FROM PASTOR JERRY

Of all the things we have lost or seem to have lost during the past
18 months,    perhaps the most significant is civil discourse,    the
ability  to   discuss  and   argue  differing  points  of  view   without
taking   those  disagreements  personally.             It  seems  many
have converted secular belief systems into religion.  Disagreement
is treated like heresy and must be silenced. Even doubt is slapped down in order to preserve the “true doctrine” taught by their particular narrative of events.  It saddens me also to see when Christians join into this dangerous pattern.  You would think that we of all people would be able to major on the majors and focus our attention on eternal truths, while letting temporary truths take their rightful place in the “who knows?” category, but no.

As church leaders, it is our job to equip the saints to do better.  To be part of the solution.

In that effort, we are beginning this Sunday with a 6-session debate about the end times.  To some, that may seem off-point to our current life experiences, but we will demonstrate that each view we present has present-day and real-world consequences.  The real benefit of this study, however, is for us to model for and motivate our fellow believers in agreeing to disagree in a spirit of love, generosity, and good humor.  We could have chosen any subject for this lesson, but Bryan, Scott, and I happen to disagree on this subject, so it turns out to be a good place to teach this skill.

Please plan to join us in the Fellowship Hall at 9am this Sunday for this vital study!

See you on Sunday!

Jerry Schrick, Senior Pastor
