Volume 26|  17 September 2021| Roll Number 697|  Week 8 Term 3

Kia ora koutou

Thank you for continuing to drop and collect your children from PUDO. This system will remain until we communicate otherwise. Please remember that the staff car park cannot be used as a drop and collect area for children. We have experienced a couple of near misses where someone could have been seriously hurt. Some parents are also accessing the staff car park from the wrong entrance. Since we have had the front entrance upgraded, we have lost some staff car parks. Therefore, the current staff car park is full and not an area where children should be.

The Years 5/6 team experienced bluebird days on Coronet Peak this week. The weather was stunning and after 3 days of snowsport lessons I imagine the students and teachers are ready for the weekend. Next week, the Years 3/4 team will experience their 3 days on Coronet Peak. The Years 7/8 team will experience their snowsport lessons on the Remarkables field in Week 10.

Please look out for our ‘lockdown’ staff video 2021 attached to the newsletter today. The staff and students have settled back into school routines seamlessly. It is wonderful to be all back together.

Scholastic New Zealand’s Auckland warehouse is currently closed due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

We have received a number of queries from schools and parents enquiring as to the status of their orders. Due to the lockdown, we have a number of unfulfilled orders stuck in our warehouse. As books are deemed non-essential items, we are not able to operate and ship any of these orders to school or homes.

I’m sure that you will understand that this situation is beyond our control, as it is for many New Zealand organisations and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
Rest assured, we will be prioritising these orders as soon as Auckland reaches level 3 and our fantastic team gets back to our warehouse. Auckland orders will be dispatched to schools as soon as Auckland reaches level 2 and students return to in-person learning.

In the meantime, if you have any questions related to your order please email bookclub@scholastic.co.nz. Our Customer Services Team are working from home and will reply to your email with an update as soon as they are able to.

Please stay safe during the lockdown.

Access To Free Period Products

Being able to go to school everyday is important for overall wellbeing. It provides a safe environment where children and young people can grow and learn, build social connections and a sense of belonging, and develop their potential. It has long-term impacts for health, employment opportunities and life choices.

Access to period products is just one way to remove barriers that prevent children and young people regularly attending school. Providing free period products is one way our government can directly address poverty and positively impact children’s wellbeing.

The initiative aims to provide free period products to children and young people in all state and state-integrated schools and kura across New Zealand during 2021, not only for use within the school setting but also at home. Queenstown Primary School is part of this initiative.

Access to period products is a necessity, not a luxury. Our product has arrived!

To access product please see Mrs Lock, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Nichols, Mrs Little, the office staff or talk to your teacher to collect two packets of the perfered product to take and use at home. Product will be available and housed within school bathrooms for use throughout the day.

If you have any queries please contact Justine Lock justinel@queenstown.school.nz

Slow Down Near School Buses

A reminder to parents/caregivers to take extra care around school bus stops. Please park on the same side as the bus stop wherever possible. But if you do need to park on the opposite side, cross to your children first instead of having them cross to you. Please never call to your child from the other side of the road – yes it does happen - and it can put children in great danger!

Parents please remember that the maximum speed when passing a stationary school bus stopped to pick up or drop off children is 20km/h regardless of which side the bus is on.  Please take extra care around school bus stops and provide supervision for children needing to cross.
