MISSION UPDATE
Animals and humans have existed in therapeutic relationships with each other for more than 12,000 years. Researching animal effects on human health and well-being began during the late 1970s and more needs to be done. Therefore, 1 FUR 1 Foundation developed a researched project in 2019 which measures the impact our animal assisted activity programs were having on patients. Our data confirms what we already suspected: 70% of children -AND- seniors with disabilities benefited from animal assisted intervention, as part of their alternative health care plan. Child-life programs are an important part of pediatric hospitalization and have tremendous effect for children with various disorders. Did you know? Animals...

These are just a few of the positive effect animals can have on human health without any specialized efforts. Now, think about all the additional advantages humans can obtain from specially trained animal for a specific purpose. At 1 FUR 1, we hope that one day, we will have active programs in all 50 states so any child or senior who wants the assistance of an animal can have it for free, as part of their journey to wellness.

PROGRAM NEWS
ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY
 
As 3 new canine advocates, Shayne, Rubi and Penny settle in their new career. The veteran canine advocates are working hard at Michigan county courts have a massive back log of cases. During a bench trial, a child victim/boy was waiting to testify in court, trial ended up being adjourned. But the boy said it was ok because he got to visit with two wonderful canine advocates, Lance and Frieda. This 1 FUR 1 animal assisted therapy program has helped 11,613 child crime victims go through the judicial process since we started working together in spring of 2017.
 
ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITY

Just last month, 3 Newfie therapy dogs had 10 off-site AAA sessions which helped 667 first responders and medical staff in TN, South and North Carolina. These vital sessions done at hospitals and fire stations are bring relief, joy and love to healthcare professionals who are exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic which has caused widespread burnout among even forcing some to walk off the job (read more). In September, we anticipate to double our impact so we need your support to continue offering free-of-charge visits to medical staff and first responders that might be thinking about walking off the job.
