"Our more toxic personal narratives (ie: our “negative self-talk”) will often dominate the brainwaves and though the self-help memes say to just 'Let go of the stories that no longer serve you!' we all know how incredibly difficult it is to silence those darker voices. What if the reason we can’t let go of the stories that no longer serve us is because the stories don’t serve us. We serve the stories."

In this essay I delve into some of the practices I’m developing for an upcoming online workshop called Personal Mythologies. (We touched on some of these practices in last week’s full moon gathering.) Drawing heavily on my 25 years of experience in the storytelling arts, in this workshop you’ll be utilizing story principles as well as synchronistic and archetypal patterning to discover the unique themes and myths that govern your life. More to come. Meanwhile, for those of you in the Los Angeles area...

Unveiling

Join me and Ilana Gustafson on the Sunday afternoon before Halloween as we gather to explore who we are behind the masks we wear. How do we open ourselves to a deeper sense of interconnectedness with others, human and non-human, past, present, and future?

Using ritual, somatic techniques, journaling, group and solo creative practices, we will gather in the wild to witness our true nature. At this time of year the veil thins between this world and the other, between the face we show and the no-face within. Let us find ourselves together in this liminal and generative space.

  • $40
  • 3-hr outdoor workshop in the wilds of LA
  • Sunday, October 24
  • Registration link coming soon. Space will be limited. Please save the date!

*Initially planned as a weekend retreat (for those of you who received an earlier email) this will be a local, outdoor workshop instead, so that we can keep this a safe and inclusive experience for all.

Let me die a thousand deaths,
if only for the privilege
of beginning again.

What's Good

  • I am deeply inspired by the teachings of Thomas Moore, the bestselling author of Care of the Soul. Thomas brings spirituality, mythology and depth psychology into the everyday, soulful life. I've been studying online with him for over six months now. His new round of courses called "Soul Psychology" have just launched (his first webinar is tomorrow!) and I highly recommend. Let him know I sent you.
  • I don't really know what 26 yr-old, techno-progressive, "ecologist of media & memory" Aaron Z. Lewis does for a living but I am here for it: "There’s a tight feedback loop between the gods we believe in and the societies we create, which is why we must take seriously the metaphors we believe by."
Fall in, fall out, fall for.
Just let yourself fall.
