Resources for Coalition Building

Coalitions can be a crucial part of social change efforts - but it can be really challenging to align groups across different missions, cultures and structures. The resources in this guide will help you consider the key elements and skills in building effective coalitions. It also points you to examples of powerful coalitions for lessons and inspiration.

Community Organising Leadership

Maxwell Smith's, co-director of COF, outlines some key leadership practices which can make a big difference in these times.
The Community Organising Fellowship, Australia’s most intensive training program for community campaigners and organisers, is accepting applications for the 2022 cohort until 15 October.

House Meeting Handbook

A guide from the Leading Change Network on utilizing the power of personal networks and public narrative to build relationships, energize supporters, and persuade those who might be interested in becoming more engaged to step up and take action. Includes useful worksheets, agendas, scripts, etc to support you to run effective house meetings.

Activist Legal Resources

The Commons is building a collection of legal guides from around the country. Here's a great example: Practical Guide to Law & Protests in the ACT Green. The guide aims to help groups and individuals understand legal issues around organising and participating in non-violent direct actions.

Learnings from Disrupt Land Forces

300+ people creatively and peacefully disrupted Brisbane’s Land Forces weapons expo over 7 days. Actions included the occupation of equipment during the arms fair, West Papuan solidarity actions, and noisy and creative protests outside local arms firms and the expo.
