17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:17-20

ONE Chapter A Day Connection Groups start Sunday, September 18, 2021.  Remember, the cycle each week looks like this: read Monday-Saturday, worship focus on Sunday will be on what you’ve read all week long, then meet in your Connection Group AFTER Sunday’s message to enlarge your growth in God’s Word together with others, to fellowship, and to pray.   If you are NOT in a connection group and would like to be in one, call the church office 770-973-8877, go to our website and look for Join a Connection Groupon the “connect” tab of our website, at the footer of each page, and on our ONE Chapter A Day website at the top and bottom of each page.

Would you like to engage in discussion or leave a question from the day’s readings? Sign up with DISQUS.  (Found right after the Memory Verse for the Week.)

Once you sign up, you can leave a comment or a question.  You can respond to questions or comments.  Here is the reminder about posting comments or questions on One Chapter A Day site.  (It is a note from Disqus).

I hope you are being blessed by our journey together “Reading through the New Testament” ONE Chapter A Day.

Pastor Carl
Yes, Men of Faith will be back in September, so mark your calendar to join us on Saturday, September 18th at 7:30 am for a wonderful Mr. Vinny breakfast, fantastic fellowship (which we all know you've missed!), and Bible study led by Pastor Carl.

After you've indulged in that wonderful breakfast and fellowship, why don't you join David Hirschler and get some wood split and stacked for the upcoming firewood season?  I've seen the pile and there's plenty of work available!

RSVP and let us know to brew a cup of coffee for you.
Un-Taste of Habitat – You are Un-Invited!

It's finally here!  Yes, tonight is the Un-Taste of Habitat!!!  See details below.  You don't want to miss this event.

I’m sure you have seen the news about the skyrocketing costs of building houses, but how does that affect the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat, with which Faith builds houses? The Lutheran Coalition likes to sponsor a half of a house each year. In 2019, that was $40,000. For this year’s house, that went up 25% to $50,000. Next year it will be a whopping $75,000! Truly we need your support for our upcoming fundraiser.

For the second year in a row, due to COVID-19, we have decided not to hold the annual Taste of Habitat. However, we will still be raising funds with an Un-Taste of Habitat! The event will be on September 17, the date the Taste of Habitat was originally scheduled, except nothing will happen. Virtual tickets will be $25 as always (you will not get an actual ticket). If you regularly attend this event or even if you don’t, please consider buying a ticket or making a donation to support the Lutheran Coalition. To do this, simply make a check out to the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat and hand it to Colleen Umphrey.  Alternately, you can put it in Colleen’s box or mail it to Faith Lutheran Church, Attn. Colleen Umphrey, 2111 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068. Then on
September 17 from 7PM – 9PM, simply stay at home!

In addition, you will have the opportunity to buy a 7-night trip to Tuscany for 4 people for $3000! Once purchased, this package never expires!  See the 2-minute video about this beautiful trip at https://youtu.be/SAgThaoX23U or visit the Web site at www.tuscanresort.com.  Please email Colleen Umphrey at umphrey.colleen@gmail.com with further questions.
Look out for this extra-special deal!
Students and faculty were given the opportunity to create our spirit wear shirts for the school year. The winner of the contest is one of our 5th grade students. Please keep an eye out for your opportunity to purchase your own Faith Lutheran Spirit shirt. What a great way to witness the Gospel and advertise about our school while out in our community.

Richest Blessings,
LWML - Lutheran Women's Missionary League

Ladies, please join us for a group adventure on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the LWML room at church.

Remember, if you are a member of Faith Lutheran or an LCMS member, you are automatically a member of LWML.  The outreach of the LWML is international - as you give your mites on Mite Sunday, you are helping with God's outreach.

The LWML is nation-wide, there are meetings throughout the Georgia/Florida distract that you may be interested in and there is also a LWML convention held every two years that is attended by over 2,500 ladies who come together to praise the Lord and make plans to distribute the mites we all collect.  There is a lot for Christian ladies to do!

So, why not join us?

Contact Elaine Long for more information (elainelong23@yahoo.com) or call 770-514-9125.

Update on past activity in September 2021:

On Sep 4, I was able to participate in the 9/11 Field of Flags ceremony with some of my handlers where I met a lot of new friends. Organized by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta through the Marietta Kiwanis Foundation, the 9/11 Field of Flags is displayed every five years and has become one of the largest commemorative events in the nation.

Many thanks to Charlotte Bode who organized this event for our group who summarized this day, “… we could not have asked for better weather with such a beautiful blue sky to walk under!  Reflecting on the 9/11 events 20 years ago is very sobering and I think we all felt the solemness as we placed our American flags on the battlefield, then looked around  to find ourselves surrounded by flags, remembering that each of those flags represents a life lost on 9/11: 2,977 lives (with the 19 terrorist hijackers, this figure rises to 2,996). The flags will fly on the battlefield until September 18th.  I hope, if you are able, you can drive by, even walk through the flags and experience this.  The flags are a site to see in daylight, waving in the breeze, or just as evening hits. But, at night, in the stillness and with the lights shining on them, an awesome sight!  Also, as an addition this year, with the 13 Americans recently killed in Afghanistan, there are 13 flags flying at half-mast.  These are also located on the battlefield beside/facing Stilesboro Road.”

Peter added, “singing God Bless America was a great way to start off the walk!”

Update on Planned activities in September 2021:

  • Visits to Northwestern Middle School, Manor Lake, The Oaks, Grace, The Pearl, Cobb County Mental Health Court, Cobb County Veterans’ Court
  • Peter is in contact with the North Cobb Library child and adult reading sessions which are about to resume.
  • Colleen Umphrey of Social Ministries has asked me to help deliver soup to shut-ins as this ministry has resumed.

Please continue to submit your requests for a Zoom visit via the following methods:
  1. Complete the ‘Hope Comfort Dog Request’ form via this link: https://forms.gle/8oknB7haY7VLGgtE9.  When a request is submitted, the information is sent directly to my organizer’s phone.
  2. Call the church office at (770) 973-8877 to set up a visit.  Janice Schaag and Susie Glass are excellent sources for getting this information to my group.

Exciting things to come!!!!

Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner?! I love this time of the year and am always so excited when I see how much our church enjoys sharing with less fortunate families. This year there will be multiple ways to share beginning
October 10th!

We will be putting shoe boxes together for
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD! I should have all the supplies to begin handing out the week of October 10th. There will be boxes in the Narthex or you can recycle shoe boxes from home by simply wrapping the top and bottom separately. Start shopping for those items that will fit in a shoe box!  In November we will be putting together Thanksgiving Food Baskets which has always been such a huge success!

In
December we will have a Christmas food drive as well as a toy collection! We are also always thankful for socks, gloves, and hat donations. Be on the lookout for the dates when items will be accepted!
