World Cleanup Day 2021 marks one year of Trash Hack

Every year the world generates more than 2.01 billion tonnes of waste. To tackle this global problem through education, UNESCO launched the Trash Hack campaign for World Cleanup Day 2020, generously funded by the Government of Japan. "Trash Hacks" are small steps that bring more lasting changes in waste reduction.

Over the past year young people around the world have shared their Trash Hacks, writing articles and posting on Instagram to share what they've learnt and encourage others to take action against waste. Thousands of school students were involved through a partnership between the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and the Foundation for Environmental Education. To support teachers to engage their students in Trash Hacking, UNESCO developed a practical guide: Trash Hack: Action Learning for Sustainable Development, in English, French and Spanish (soon available in Arabic, Chinese and Russian).

Do you want to be part of the solution? Visit the www.trashhack.org for inspiration, join the World CleanUp Day on Saturday 18 September and share your #TrashHack with us!
