Family-Classroom Connections

Tonight, our last classroom will host the Parent Curriculum Night to share about our individual programs and strategies for supporting the academic and social-emotional learning for students. Thank you to all who attended! When parents and teachers are connected for regular communication, students are supported!

Communication Plans
Get in Touch

Our teachers send out weekly classroom newsletters with updates from the week. If you have a specific question for your student's teacher, the best way to connect is by email.

Looking Ahead
Parent Conferences

Our teachers will be in touch in October to schedule an individual parent conference for each of their students.

Scholastic Book Fair
The Book Fair starts next week!

While our school earns more with in person shopping, online sales have already opened up. You can find our school's link here.

Next week, the Great Room will be open Monday-Friday, from 8:00-9:00 and again from 2:30-4:00 (12:30-4:00 on Wednesday).

Masks are required for all who are coming to the fair, and visitors may be asked to wait to shop if space is limited.

A Gardner Tradition

Wheels in School
It was a beautiful day last week for Wheels in School! Each recess, our K-6 students ride their wheels around the garden. Each round, we see students get a little more confident, and the extra excitement of the day is fun for all. Our Early Childhood students got their own time to ride around the loop. Head of School, Emily Davis, and our Music Teacher, Anja, joined the students for a few laps, too!
Meet the Teacher
Molly Cook

Dear Gardner Community,

Hello! My name is Molly Cook and I am the new Art and K-6 After Care teacher. I have approximately seven years of professional experience in primary education, including serving in the Peace Corps in Thailand as an English Teacher. I graduated from Lewis and Clark School of Education in 2018 with a Master’s in Elementary Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Most recently, I taught at David Douglas and Beaverton School Districts. I am thrilled to begin this new chapter in my career at Gardner, incorporating my love and knowledge of art with young students.

I am originally from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, which I still call home despite going on year seven of living in Portland. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in International Environmental Affairs. I met my husband, Ian, who is from Portland, in Thailand and joined him on the West Coast after my service in 2015. Ian and I just got married at the end of July in my parent’s backyard in Virginia; a fantastic way to see my family after a hard year and a half apart. Ian and I live in SE Portland, where he commutes to West Linn to run his beekeeping business, and we live with our two cats, Charlie and Cheese Puff.

In my spare time, I read, run, do yoga, play frisbee, and paint. I have always had a passion for art, visual learning and expression. I am an amateur watercolorist, primarily just for fun, but occasionally for others.

I am so grateful  to share my experience and love of art with the students and learning community of Gardner. My hope is to create a space where students (and staff!) feel welcome to come decompress and express themselves, not just during class times. I look forward to meeting “y’all this week!

Upcoming Construction

A shift in drop off and pick up procedures

Our neighbors will be starting a construction project that will affect our school's use of the shared easement driveway. Our team is working on details, including how to shift drop off and pick up areas, and we will share information with families as soon as plans are finalized.

Campus snapshots

Wheels in School was a highlight of the week, but students have been busy in the classrooms, too! Thematic studies are getting into full swing, and our students are exploring topics in Earth Science like Geology, Weather, Geography, and more. Classroom routines are getting solidified, and everyone is finding their groove.
