Welcome to the Oregon Region's
September 2021 Newsletter!

Hello Oregon Region!

Just like that, it is the Fall and people are back in school and the Oregon Region Year is almost over. Whoa. We are very much looking forward to seeing all that want to participate at the Mega- Certification on September 25-26 (exact times and location dependent on participants so sign up promptly!). Then we have the Regional Lesson on October 10th. Our Show Jump Rally is October 22-24 at the Clark County Fairgrounds (this is a Championships qualifying Rally and Championship will be in California in 2022!). And last but certainly not least is the Fall Meeting and Banquet on November 6th (location TBD). We are also welcoming a new club to the Region in Columbia Pony Club, based on Sauvies Island! So be sure to say Hello and introduce yourselves to the new faces!
                                                                           ~ Jocelyn Ehlers, RS

It's almost fall and that mean Show Jumping Rally for the Oregon Region. Our qualifying Show Jumping Rally is going to be October 22-24th at the Clark County Event Center. The sign up form is live NOW. Click on the link below for more information. DC/CA's are to sign teams up so talk to your DC/CA if you want to show! This will be our last rally of 2021 so I encourage everyone to participate. We'll have levels from pyramid poles up to 4' jumps so there is something for everyone. It's always good to practice all of your horse management knowledge at a Pony Club rally too. The entry form closes at midnight on September 30th so make sure you form your teams (or catch riders - it's ok to not have a full team - we will fill teams in for you!) as soon as possible. If you have any questions about Rally, PLEASE reach out to us at oregonregionboard@gmail.com.

Along with participants in Show Jumping Rally, we also will need...you guessed it - VOLUNTEERS! As I have said (once or twice) before, we literally CANNOT hold a rally without volunteers. Volunteers are ESSENTIAL to a successful rally. If you are a parent whose child is participating in a Rally, you should volunteer for at least one shift. If you are a friend or other relative, you should also sign up for at least one shift because not only does it help everyone out, it's actually interesting and FUN! Since we parents and friends are not allowed to help our kids or friends at rallies, volunteering gives us something to do while we wait to watch them ride. That's right, you will absolutely still be able to watch your kiddo or friend ride so don't let that hold you back from volunteering. Please let your DC/CA know which days you are willing to volunteer so they can add you to the team's entry form. I will send a SignUp Genius out by the closing date for entries (Sept 30). If you have any questions about volunteer jobs or if you know you want a certain job/specific time feel free to reach out to me personally and I will sign you up early so you can be sure to get the job you want! I can be reached at TStout31@gmail.com Thank you, Happy Fall, and see you soon!
                                                  ~ Warmly,
                                                         Tracy Stout, VRS

Region Finances

~ Michele Stevens, Treasurer ~

Membership renewals are now open for 2022! We hope you are all planning to be back with us in 2022, so why not get a head start and save some $$ ?? If you renew your memberships between September 1 and November 15, you pay $10 less for National dues, and $5 less for Regional dues! For regional dues, it is $35 between September 1 and November 15, but $40 for the remainder of the year. Don't be late....get those membership renewals in before the prices go up! Questions? Email me at rosemontfarm@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help! This past month I had a couple of one on one sessions with club treasurers, helping them get on track with their financial obligations as Club Treasurers. Not only were the Zoom calls helpful, they were fun and I have enjoyed getting to know people that I had not yet had the pleasure to meet! Let me know if your club wants to learn more about the Central Finance System that we are required to use. Believe it or not, finances can be FUN!

As always, if you have any questions regarding finances, treasurer or any other related PC questions, don't hesitate to contact me :)

We are now able to use Zelle Transfers to pay/receive funds in clubs and the Region. These transfers are bank to bank, with no "middleman" or apps required. The transfers work with an email or a cell phone number, and best of all, there are no fees!

CLUB NEWS

Highland Riders PC: This month, HRPC had a great lesson on how to compose a Musical Freestyle. Our members are looking forward to practicing their routines throughout the winter so they can be ready for Dressage Rally in the spring. Congrats to Payton Gault on earning her C1 EV and to Camille Bader on earning her D1 EV and D2 HM. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Show Jump Rally!

Oregon Trail PC:  Oregon Trail Pony Club is bursting with wonderful new members who are as excited as us to be part of the United States Pony Club!   Welcome Corrine, Alex, Marlo and Janie to OTPC!     We know you will have fun and our established members will enjoy teaching you all you need to know!

Five Oregon Trail members certified in August, and it was success all around for each of them!  Congrats Caro, Kaylie, Tayte, Lauren and Lucy on your new certification levels!    We are proud of the work and practice you put into passing your tests :)   Huge thanks to Courtney for organizing, and Anna & Abby for your thorough examining skills!

Over Labor Day weekend,  Kaylie took part in the "Teens and Oregon Mustangs/Burro program", with her assigned burro, Boris!
Kaylie spent 100 days training Boris and had a fabulous conclusion to the challenge....because her family decided to keep Boris.  He is one lucky (and very cute) Burro!   If you want to learn more about the program,  here is a link http://www.teensandoregonmustangs.org/  Or ask Kaylie next time you see her at a PC event!

Tracy doesn’t ride horses but her daughter, Mikayla is a very active upper level member with Rose City PC who has earned her HB/C2 EV, so Tracy has been at every single show and clinic, including four USPC Championships and two National Symposiums, that Mikayla has participated in since 2013. Tracy is also a part of the Oregon Region Quiz committee who helps put on our fantastic Quiz rallies every year. Tracy plans to continue in her current position through 2021, but will need a replacement for 2022. If anyone is interested in this position in the future, please let us know.

Horse Management Organizer ~ Adria Fix
Adria has been involved with horses for 30 years, teaching for 13 years, running a program for 11 years and most recently having a Pony Club Riding Center for the past 5 years. She started with Eventing in middle school and continued through High School. During College she rode on her college's IHSA team making it to Zone's in her senior year. After college, she bought her very first horse herself (Bren) and continued in eventing and eventually landing a teaching and managing job at a barn. She started a Pony Club Riding Center as a way to bring the Horsemanship and Management side of horses to her students who did not own horses. It has turned into one of the best decisions for her program. She is looking forward to helping all Centers and Clubs bring the best HM possible to their members.

Treasurer ~ Michele Stevens
Michele has served on the Regional Board since 2018. She is also currently the DC of Oregon Trail Pony Club. Her daughter, Emma, started in Pony Club at the end of 2005 with Oregon Trail, and did certifications every year, achieving her A Rating when she was 17.  Since then, Emma has continued to help out Pony Clubs in the US and the UK, by teaching and as an examiner.  Michele joined as an official Pony Club member, shortly after Emma went to university, and has evented to the Beginner Novice level, and achieved her D2 eventing certification.

Regional Instructional Coordinator ~ Jordan Schulz
Jordan is a B level member of Patton Valley Pony Club. Jordan has been a member of Pony Club for about 15 years now, and has traveled to Cle Elum and Kentucky for championships, once in eventing and once in show jumping. Throughout her equestrian career she has worked for Grand Prix rider and trainer Terri Rocovich, as well as 4 star riders Ryan Wood and Courtney Cooper. Jordan is currently working towards her HA and A level certifications and is an assistant trainer at Inavale Farms in Corvallis. Jordan looks forward to "seeing" everyone this year and can't wait for the accomplishments 2021 will bring!

Secretary ~ Anna Hohl
Anna joined the Regional Board in 2020 and has been involved with Pony Club since 2018. She is also the DC of Highland Riders Pony Club. Her daughter, Madeline, is a D3 EV with Highland Riders. Anna has fond memories of growing up riding horses, but now lives vicariously through her two horse-crazy daughters.
